John Murray Proves Worth as Future British Star

British lightweight John Murray has been very impressive as of late. With each pasisng fight, he looks more and more like he can take the step up to being a world class operator. In contrast, Jon Thaxton has been struggling after a career best win last year to capture the European Lightweight title. Thaxton lost his title on points, then stepped up in weight and lost again to journeyman Tom Glover. [details]

Because Murray's trainer was quoted as saying before the fight that, that was what kind of fight it would be.

        Rubbish stoppage imo.

The only reason I can see why he stopped that is because Thaxton was wobbling like jelly and Murray moved into stop him.

In which case, should of waited till Murray dropped Thaxton and then either stopped it after the count or while he was on the floor.

Like Brendan said, Thaxton wasn't busted up nor had he been down yet.

Right, I didn't know that. Why doesn't the article say this? It makes the author look like a ****.

What was the point in the fighting being let to go on another round or 2 just to see Thaxton getting hurt? It was obvious what was going to happen and only a sadistic bastard would want to see that kinda thing to happen to a guy like Jon Thaxton. Good stoppage for a fighter who was openly talking about retirement even before the first bell.

This is how i see it.

I think ITV were getting behind the network Boy (Murray)

Thaxton was wobbled but you have to know the fighter, Steve Smoger gave Pavlik every opportunity in the second round with Taylor because he knew the fighter, yet he also stopped Taylor because he knew him as a fighter, that decision turned out to be spot on.

Thaxton is a guy that can get hit but he has good recuperative power to weather the storm and gather himself fairly quickly. Amir Khan gets hit and stays hit, no recovery powers what so ever.

Thaxton was **** on to bring up the Prescott fight imo, then again Thaxton is not a young man who they can market anymore so....................

Murray deffo would of won but Thaxton deserved more of a chance imo. Agree with Ingle to.

Ref complaints aside I did think Murray looked very good. A fight with Katsidis would be amazing, even though I reckon John gets stopped.
