GLENDALE, Arizona -- The visual damage on his face was all the explanation that anyone was owed from Oscar Valdez. Ever the proud in-ring warrior, the former two-division titlist still felt the need to address his supporters after coming up short in a bid to enter a third title reign.

As a boxing fan, I can say you did not disappoint me and I'm pretty sure you did not disappoint other fans.... I believe, most of us just want you to give it your all and you left it all in the ring and for me that's good enough champ....

I was disappointed in Valdez until I watched the fight again. He did good. The problem is that his head is the same size as the big aqua bags, so it's perfect for the double uppercut everytime he comes charging in. All u have to do is pivot and throw any kinda hook or uppercut and its bound to hit some part of his head. Guys who normally have a 30% connect percentage are landing well over 70% against Valdez because of the size of his melon. Almost like a prime Timothy Bradley. In fact, Valdez should be nicknamed "Young School Bus Head Timmy"

Valdez fought the wrong fight. He may not be able to beat Navarrete even if he fights the right fight. But standing right in front of Navarrete all night winging all power shots is not the answer. He needed more movement and less power on his punches.

I felt that the fight was competitive. Valdez couldn't handle Navarrete's power. Once he felt the shots from Navarrete, then he started to back down and start moving more. Navarrete is a big guy for his weight class and usually overpowers guys with his size, power and sheer volume of punches. Valdez never in the fight had enough power to earn the respect of Navarrete. Valdez's best chance of winning was to use lateral movement, duck a lot, work the body and go upstairs later on which is what he did in spurts. Navarrete is a tough guy to beat. I have seen about 5-7 of his fights and his volume, accuracy and power always overwhelms fighters. Valdez should be proud of the way he fought because he gave it his all but he just didn't have the power to hurt Navarrete. He caught Navarrete with a lot of good shots but never hurt him.

Thought this one would be a mad tear-up but Navarette kinda just beat him up from mid-range in a skilful performance.
