Comments Thread For: Derrick James on Anthony Joshua: It's One Thing to Hang Out with Champs, It's Another to Be Able to Endure the Workouts

Derrick James has been pleased by the way Anthony Joshua has bought into his program. James, the veteran trainer out of Dallas, Texas, runs one of the most in-demand gyms in professional boxing today, with an enviable clientele that includes undisputed junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo, unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr., and lightweight contenders Frank Martin and Ryan Garcia.

The fact is, now that Errol is beaten, Derrick James could possibly become a better trainer, because he's intelligent and he'll realize what screws in Errol weren't tightened enough. He better sharpen up Charlo's defense, him and Joan Guzman, yall better work on Charlo, or he's going to get hit and hurt by Canelo

DJ seems like he can’t spell “boxing”. All of his fighters fight the same way. Bud just gave us the blueprints to beat his whole stable

I actually think it's a bit of a shame that Joshua didn't stay with Robert Garcia for at least a couple more fights. He looked in great shape in the second fight aginst Usyk and I liked the upper body movement that Garcia instilled in him. He didn't quite do enough to win the fight, but he fought well nonetheless.

Derrick James seems to instill decent fundamentals, albeit without too much variation. It's too early to judge his partnership with AJ, though, and I doubt we'll learn much from the Helenius fight.
