Comments Thread For: WBC Extends Deadline For Devin Haney To Decide Between 135 And 140 For Next Fight

Devin Haney will have a few more days to decide on his next fight. A six-day extension was granted by the WBC Board of Governors for Haney to commit to either defend his undisputed lightweight championship or challenge for the 140 pound crown, the sanctioned body confirmed. The ruling came just hours before the originally imposed deadline for Haney to inform all parties of his decision.

Haney needs to tell the WBC that he is suffering massive stress from the pressure of having to make a decision. He'll get a 2 year time limit no probs.

Doesn't seem too stressed though. There are ongoing talks with Matchroom to make Prograis-Haney.

Maybe the "deadline" approach should be shelved for now.

WBC is in no hurry too obligate Haney to make a decision. Regis is the WBC champ and Haney has the 135 WBC title, which ever way Haney goes they will profit. The only way they can marginally profit is if they force a rematch against Loma. The cash cow of the division is locked up and Shakur seems to be another good financial move.

              Between the two options,
              Regis has less upside later.
Shakur can still grow as an attraction.
              Beat Regis now.
Set up a unification with Teofimo.
Then welcome a growing Stevenson to 140.
              All these fights are good,
              and everybody's young,
So no one gets aged out in the process.

                Devin options are
                Loma Rematch 135
                Tank 135
                Shakur 135
                Regis 140
                Lopez 140

I don't give him a chance vs anyone other than the smaller older Loma.

As if "WBC" and "deadline" ever go together in the same sentence...

I think Yep and Tank would negotiate themselves out of the fight. Prograis isn't ready and needs to make $ before taking a risky fight. Devin isn't ready for Shakur and he isn't ready to risk future $ just yet. A Loma rematch is probably his only real option. Well there's always Rolly, Ryan and MMA Connor (Khabib and Floyd's chauffeur).
