Kickboxing is an okay grounding but not as good as a solid amateur boxing career. You can learn the body work and the punching when in close, both of which is not taught that much as it is in boxing. You then have to learn to keep your guard up more as there’s holes there as you kick it easy to neglect your defence. It’s a decent combat sport but you have to work hard on these bad habits that get found out in boxing. There’s many kick-boxers that are
successful with the cross over but importantly it takes time !
I doubt this Fury cross over fight will be competitive as this guy hasn’t had the experience of fighting a top guy , so big with such reach and good skills as Fury , he may of been wiser picking someone like Joshua or Joyce , Zhang who get hit . If the guy did win it would be a major surprise, I don’t like it , I understand the money side but it most definitely is stopping the boxing matches we want to see

Agreed. The ones who can do it are the ones who have been kick-boxing and Thai boxing for a very long time, competitively, professionally. Even then they have to correct the more square stance and employ defensive aspects like head movement and bobbing and weaving which is absent in Thai boxing and mma due to knee strikes

Of course Jake thinks this. His whole schtick from the beginning came across like an organized attempt to **** with Dana and the UFC. If the guy genuinely cared he wouldnt be knocking out old legends in front of millions of people.

The problem is most mma fighters on the usa are suburbanite kids with no access to boxing gyms which are almost always in inner city and lower income areas. I was on an mma team for a few years and I remember asking the “professor” (ie a BJJ blk belt instructor) why we didn’t have boxing training courses in the school like we did BJJ, Wrestling, and Thaiboxing. His response was “these rich kids arnt interested in it, it takes too long to learn and it’s too painful for them.” On top of being a BJJ blk belt he was also an amateur boxer…and he was right. You’re rarely going to get someone who started out as a wrestler or grappler and getting to the ufc level moving to boxing at the top level. Unless they have a solid amateur boxing background
