Having full autonomy over your career isn't always a good thing. And, in the case of Ryan Garcia, Oscar De La Hoya believes that he was heading down the wrong path.

Garcia reminds me of Amir Khan. He’s super fast, good talent level, but his body type simply won’t take a lot of punishment. Small head, fairly long neck, flat, wide torso… all those make a guy too easy to hurt bad.
Oscar back on that stuff, trust me! I never here Don King, Bob Arum none of these promoters making dumb ass comments about fighters they work with, Oscar going to learn when one fire on his aSs; Bernard almost caught one just touching the wrong fighter.
Oscar is Garcia’s boss, like it or not, and Garcia is jumping ship as soon as he becomes a free agent regardless of what Oscar does or says, and Oscar knows it. So we have this weird situation where Garcia is promoted by Oscar, they are feuding, and there are really no filters from either of them.
I think Golden Boy, as a promotional outfit, has actually been pretty good to Garcia.
Talent aside, both Ryan and Oscar are totally insecure and need attention all the time. They seem to be a couple of needy, feeble-minded characters who desperately need psychiatric help.
