Comments Thread For: Shields' Promoter: Rematch With Marshall in The United States Makes Sense

Dmitriy Salita, promoter for undisputed middleweight champion Claressa Shields, is very interested in the possibility of a rematch with Savannah Marshall. Last year, Shields outboxed Marshall over ten rounds to become the undisputed middleweight champion in their long-awaited grudge match.

The problem with this fight is that in the United States it won't generate the sales volume that fights in the U.K. produce nor will it sell greatly over pay per view seeing the 1st fight was just good, but nothing spectacular. If womans boxing is to survive they will need to increase the rounds to 3 minutes and championship fights to 12 rounds as well, the more knockouts or stoppages the better following you'll have.

Shields last fight so less than 1000 tickets and they had to give away hundreds and hundreds of seats to make it look even halfway full

Marshall should fight Shadasia Green next in the UK for a nice payday then have a final fight against Shields as there is nobody left after that.

Truer words have never been spoken.

Most Americans don’t understand that. Serena Williams with all her credentials could not sell out US Open or any of her other matches.
There is zero sense & cents to have Shields-Marshall’s in the US.

Fight In the u.s for what? probz half the money, front of 30% of a uk arena crowd, at 4am uk time... absolute no sense. Marshall definitely has the bigger fan base, for as good as shields is she aint putting bums on seats, probs has more of a fanbase herself in the uk then the u.s given her performances here.

nobody in the states will think marshall has any shot in the rematch but marshalls die hards will believe she may have a shot if she somehow does better & turn out in that hope possibly

                Yep.

That’s what I want to see next. Winner gets Shields.

I honestly believe that only the Uk gets women boxers paid. Besides maybe Amanda

The fight doesn't sell in the states like it does in the UK. I get why sheilds thinks she should get to fight at home because she won the first fight but if she wants a pay day she'll be daft not to take it again in the UK. In the states they'll fight for less money Infront of half the crowd and UK fans that do watch women's boxing because not all do gotta watch it at 4.30am. yeah smart business
