    David Tua: A Generation’s Bridesmaid

By Cliff Rold - This Saturday night in New Zealand, Samoan ****er David Tua returns to the ring for the first time in two years. He’ll face native puncher Shane Cameron (23-1, 20 KO) in what will be a big event in the land of “Flight of the Concords.” Cameron is 31. David Tua is 38 years old.

Before the year is out, the calendar will turn to 39. Either number is getting up there for an athlete, despite recent evidence to the contrary in boxing. Either number, for an athlete, is old. It’s a concept which causes a scratch of the head. [details]

Tua's mindset was/is like Rocky Juarez', coming forward looking to land that one big shot while getting outboxed and outworked, he was definitely a frustrating fighter to watch, much more effective when he let his hands go in combinations, which didn't happen too often.

And I thought the 'knockdown' in the second Rahman fight was partially caused by balance, he looked fine and immediately got back up.

Cameron isn't good enough to handle Tua. Friday Ahunanya took Cameron out, and if Tua let's his hands go, goodnight Shane. As for Tua politics controlled his career. Cliff nailed it down. I've always liked Tua and felt bad for him at the same time. I watch his fight with Ibeabuchi monthly late at night while I'm supposedly studying. He got his one shot at the world title and Lewis picked him apart. Tua could've made a big splash at the turn of the centruy, but as Cliff pointed out, it was all the old names stealing the headlines. Had Tua actually walked away with the win over Ibeabuchi, he would've been in a few more high profile fights earlier. But he truthfully lost to Ike and it wasn't meant to be. I will never forget Tua giving John Ruiz his only career highlight and for that I am eternally grateful. Now let's hope Tua takes down Cameron and then I want him in with someone like Samuel Peter

Tua should win this though. His weight at the weigh-in is very surprising to say the least. Cameron must also be shocked... be very afraid. hehehe.

Could Tua give it a go one more time? I certainly hope so. Win/lose, will certainly support him. Go fatso!!! ... give the Samoans reason to rejoice after that fatal tragedy.

I hope tua wins this.. I give him the punchers chance against anyone and considering the power of tua thats one hell of a chance

If he looks good in this fight a fight against peter, arreola, toney would be great to watch... The klits would be Lewis-Tua again and that would be sad to watch IMO

                  pretty much.

he gets one shot and it's against a top 10 atg.

                  not fair.

Tua's path should be as follows

An impressive KO over Cameron to get the boxing world buzzing about him again

                    then

Something like a Showtime date or HBO BAD date against an American gate keeper in America like a Chazz Witherspoon. Tua, at 235ish, would surely KO Witherspoon

                    then

Go after a Wlad Klit fight. Tua does not have a chance of beating Vitali but has a punchers chance against Wlad.
