  • Comments Thread For: David Benavidez: There's No Fight With Morrell Lined Up; We Want To Fight Jaime Munguia

David Benavidez hasn't ruled out fighting David Morrell Jr. next. The unbeaten WBC interim super middleweight champion confirmed during an interview Tuesday with FightHype.com that he hasn't agreed to fight Morrell, either. If Canelo Alvarez indeed isn't an option for Benavidez's return to the ring in

I don’t care for Morrell, but honestly, this is getting ridiculous. Benavidez only seems to want to fight guys he has physical advantages over…taller, bigger, they came from lower weights.

He should grow some balls and call out Bivol, Beterbiev, Joe Smith, Callum Smith, Ramirez, Govzdyk.

Seems like Benavidez is just thumping on his chest towards fighters who came from 154-160.

So far, he’s called out Charlo, Canelo, Munguia. All former 154-160 fighters.

I don’t see him hollering Bivol’s name, or Beterbiev, or basically anyone his actual physical size or anyone who has campaigned at 168-175 for a while.

At this particular juncture of David's career, Morrell represents HUGE risks low reward so I'd give David huge props for fighting Morrell next.
That being said, a fight vs Jaime is not big enough for Oscar to allow Jaime to get pummelled by David. C'mon David, you just saw Jaime's last fight!

Your promoter Sampson must be lying then as he said there was a deal? Mungia is smaller, almost got stopped by a tiny middleweight and now you want to fight him instead of Morrell? You and your father and your brother talk mad smack but your all FOS, that's why you didn't and are getting Canelo either.

I'm actual confused by this statement because Munguia isn't going to fight Benavidez nor do I expect him too. I expect Munguia to get in the ring with middleweights like Charlo and Adames.

In this scenario, I'd only expect Munguia to jump up if he called out Benavidez, cleared out 160, or was considered a top pound for pound talent.

I really want see either Morrell, Andrade or Alvarez take on Benavidez; those fights all make sense in my opinion.

Quick edit, I'm actually in the wrong here. Oscar called out Benavidez for September with Munguia and Munguia has moved up. Benavidez has every right to fight Munguia.

He wants to keep his status and position to fight ginger. You see, you don't care for Morrell Jr, but benavidez does.

This is reminding me of when Lou had Sergio Martinez and was like "Everyone is ducking Martinez because Cotto and JCC Jr won't fight him, we can't get him a good fight" and people would suggest he fight Pirog or Golovkin.... then Lou would go absolutely nuclear about how ****** it was to demand Martinez fight a high-risk/low-reward opponent when that's exactly what he was demanding of Cotto and JCC Jr.

                  Benavidez should fight Morrell.

I don't mind Benavidez not wanting to fight Morrell right now because he gains nothing from it and this fight could be bigger down the line, but a fight against Munguia is just bad for the division.
There are other contenders at 168 that both he and Morrell could fight before eventually facing each other.
