It seems like Kelly Pavlik could've done more in boxing if he stayed sober.

More recently, Jermall Charlo has been out of action since 2021 and has had some episodes with alcohol.

The jury is still out on Errol Spence. If he seems off July 29th and Crawford tears him apart, I think it's safe to say alcohol derailed Spence's career.

Tyson Fury seems to be an easy answer. His career may not be over, but it has certainly been hindered by drugs and booze.

Mayorga probably could have accomplished more if not for the smoking and the boozing.

Aren't there stories about Mike Tyson drugging pretty heavily in the weeks before the Douglas fight?

Yeah Mike Tyson leading up to the Douglas fight may be one of the best examples! I read he crash-dieted to get down to his fighting weight for the Douglas fight because he had packed on pounds from boozing and partying.

Pavlik is good one. A clearheaded and sober Pavlik probably beats Martinez convincingly, the work he did was Taylor in Taylor's prime was something.

The scumbag Tony Ayala Jr back in the early 80s. Dude would drunkenly break in to homes and assault women.

He spent nearly 20 years in the can, and returned to be in a firefight with Yori Boy Campas, competing on the world level.
