Comments Thread For: Puello Tests Positive For Banned Substance; Romero To Box Barroso For Vacant WBA Belt 5/13

LAS VEGAS - Alberto Puello's championship reign apparently will be a short one. BoxingScene.com has learned that the Dominican southpaw has tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug, which is expected to cost Puello his WBA super lightweight title. The 28-year-old Puello failed for an undisclosed substance in a test administered by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association.

Damn. Rivera first, now Puello. What's going on in the D.R?

Rolly Romero is going to be a world champion!

They had Omar Juarez, Rances Barthelemy, Gary Antuanne Russell and Batyr Akhmedov in the undercard.

Yet they chose a random 40 year old vet for Romero?

They were really trying to make him out to be this new boogeyman in 140.

Look how fast. Failed the test, fight cancelled and stripped.

In the meantime other organizations take months and never clear how to proceed or to make the fighter fully responsible.

Barroso was the mandatory challenger to winner of Puello-Romero. He should have been fighting Puello instead of Romero, but it was worked out where he would get the winner. Better to get it out of the way now.

So all Romero had to do was get KTFO to get a title shot. What a joke.

Well yeah he is the mandatory for the WBA, but it feels pretty obvious what the outcome of a fight between Romero and Barroso will be.

Ismael clawed his way to the top by beating subpar fighters and is currently on the decline with a questionable chin. Easy pickings for a awkward big puncher like Romero.

Romero shouldn't be fighting for the title in the first place after coming off from a knockout loss to a lightweight. Why not pit him with other ranked contenders first?
