Tim Tszyu didn't talk much, he just had good legs and a full gas tank, kept his hands up, chin down, and fought hard. Tony was maybe more skillful, but not nearly as fit and strong. Boxing is about skill, but there are other factors, and many of them are about basics. Focus and a strong work ethic is also a skill, so u can say Tim Tszyu is very skilled. We saw it with Resendiz vs. Jarrett Hurd. Conditioning and the will to win is as much of a skill as boxing ability

It's funny that Harrison said that Tsyzu is basic. But Tsyzu basically whipped his a$$. Ali said the same thing about Frazier in 1970 after their fight. However, Ali got his ass whipped in that fight. But he also said that Frazier does that really well. Boxing is about skill but also simplicity. Having a good jab, movement, using your power, knowing when to clinch, knowing when to fight, etc. Tsyzu didn't come out fighting very sloppy. He came out measured and had a gameplan to take Harrison into the later rounds and finish him off by round 9 and that is exactly what happened. Harrison didn't have the power to keep Tsyzu off of him. Tsyzu knew that Harrison would jab him all night. He blocked that jab nicely, worked the body, used uppercuts and knew when to use that right hand. So yeah basic Tsyzu whipped Harrison's ass.

You got a good post there Citizen.
Indeed! Funny thing is that Tony himself is basic in his boxing approach.

I think sometimes being crude or being fundamentally sound all get mixed up in the same "straight up and down no special effects" category.

what's funny is Kostya Tszyu himself was basic af lmfao

legit just 1-2 spams. but he had great timing. Zab Judah mocked Tszyu before their fight too about the constant 1-2

then he got stankylegged by 2 back to back 1-2's lmfao

I don't think he's basic at all. He uses advanced punching and boxing techniques, it's just he doesn't have any pop and get's hit too much. If you refute this YDKSAB, facts.

Many great boxers are basic in tech. Look at Chris John, extremely basic 1-2 fighter. Dominant wins over Gainer, JMM, Rocky Juarez, great fighter but basic. Nothing wrong with being basic.

The Eastern Euro / ex -Soviet style is kinda no frills. The emphasis is on mastery of the fundamentals, range, timing, punch selection not about flashy eye catching moves or dazzling flair. It's a methodical workman like approach that at the highest level is very, very effective - look at Bivol for instance.
Problem is, Floyd fans use that against boxers all the time thinking its an insult.

Man, his amazing fundamentals are ****!

Tony is a fantastic boxer. His problem is no power. If he had stayed a career amateur I'm sure he would have a gold medal

Not because he was beaten by Tszyu, more because he looked as if he could barely move, didn't use any movement defensively, kept getting hit with the same basic punches, didn't throw any combinations, only the jab, with the occasional 1, 2. Tony looked worse than I have ever seen him, even in the fight against Perrella, and that was terrible. Maybe with a new trainer, he could find some new life, but that version of Harrison wouldn't beat any top 10 contender.

                    I have to repeat this,

Harrison wasn't able to do what everyone expected him to do because he faced a different beast with more claws and pangs. Sometimes people just need to give credit where credit is due, instead of constantly coming up with excuses when their fighters lose.

Fighters do different things in different fights. Bradley, for instance, traded with Provodnikov, but fought elusively when he fought Marquez.
