Comments Thread For: Derrick James: I Feel The World Hasn't Seen The Best Of Anthony Joshua

The reigning Trainer of the Year is up to the task of reshaping the career of Anthony Joshua. Derrick James is confident there is still work to be done with the former two-time unified heavyweight titlist, whom he has welcomed to his intimate training stable. The union was confirmed by England's Joshua just prior to confirmation of his upcoming April 1 bout versus Jermaine Franklin at The O2 in London.

The AJ narrative is becoming like the David Haye story. Version 2.0, Version 3.0. Bigger, better, faster, stronger and all that other bullsh**.

Joshua is what he is, athletic, explosive, powerful but limited. He’s always had the same problems going back to the amateur days.

He’s still a good HW, just not good enough to beat the elite fighters in the division.

Joshua has a good amount of experience now but still isn't too old. If this fighter/trainer combination works out and the hunger is still there, some of his best performances may still be ahead of him.

The truth is Aj was never as good as he was promoted to be. You had Hearn labeling him as a top 10 HW ever and British fans actually believe that to be true. He just had the strong backing of a delusional fan base so they, and he bought into the hype. Now he’s following in khans footsteps by instead of acknowledging that he’s not as good as he thought, he switches trainers every time he loses, but the results end up being the same.

Bodybuilder's boxing ability is underrated. He can move and box actually. Ukrainian draft dodger was just too boxer for him. He can outbox anyone except draft dodger and Fury.

Spot on. Great post. Joshua is a victim of unrealistic expectations.

Joshua certainly had some great knockouts of poor to intermediate level fighters. He owes us a fight with Wilder though.

Isn’t that what they all say when they get hired. Joshua’s problem is that he can’t take a shot. He needs to see Timothy Bradley’s doctor so they deal with his concussion first. If Mayweather Senior was available as a trainer I would take him if I was Joshua. Mayweather Jr told Joshua long back to come to the Mayweather Gym so they could fix his defensive flaws. Well the rest is history. It pays to listen sometimes, problem with Joshua is he had so many yes man around him.
