  • Comments Thread For: Subriel Matias: Josh Taylor Held Whole Division Hostage By Not Letting Go Of Titles Sooner

Subriel Matias realizes Josh Taylor eventually did what made the most business sense for the former undisputed 140-pound champion after he defended the IBF, WBA, WBC and WBO belts nearly a year ago.

Hmm...is this not what the Charlo'z, Spence, PBC and Mayweather Promotions have been doing for the last few years, holding belts "hostage"?

Did this group not set the trend that Josh Taylor is following today?

    Selective boxing news for sure.

What Taylor did appear's to be more egregious, due to the fact that he kept on postponing a rematch that he didn't intend to honor.
Add to that the fact that he only fought once a year for the prior three year's, and yes he did hold the belts hostage.
What he did was more in line with the way that Gary Russell Jr. charted his career, although Russell was even worse at holding the belts hostage.
That said even after josh dropped the belts one at a time, further delaying the would be successor's from fighting for the vacant title's.
You even had Prograis having difficulty securing a challenger for his title, due to the fact that first Jose Ramirez, and then Teofimo Lopez refused to fight him.
Then you have one of the challenger's in Jeremias Ponce, causing further delay for one of the vacant title's against Subriel Matias.
Just one big quagmire in the 140 pound weight division, which is going to be cleared up with this fight for the last of the vacated title belts hopefully.

Matias will be a champion after Saturday, and once Regis makes his first defense, Sabriel should reach out to Prograis for a unification fight.

I bet Prograis will duck him waaay too dangerous and low reward still.

Thing is Prograis is low reward too.

Matias has already stated that he want's his next opponent after Ponce to be Prograis, which would be a fantastic fight between two hard nosed competitor's.
I think that Matias walk's him down, and knocks Prograis out, but not before catching hell in the process of rocking, dropping, and stopping Mr. Rougarou to unify the belts.

I don't think that he'll be able to avoid him, because there'll be to much of a clamor from the fans for the fight to take place.
