  • Comments Thread For: Shakur Stevenson Anxious To Prove Team Haney Wrong, Become Undisputed Lightweight Champion

Although he stood tall and flexed for his Australian supporters, Devin Haney's fans appeared concerned with his outward appearance. Heading into his second showdown against George Kambosos Jr., the 24-year-old Haney walked onto the scale seemingly in awful shape. After depleting his ever-growing body down to the 135-pound limit, a slew of observers were convinced that Haney's time in the lightweight division was just about over with.

I think it would be a HUGE mistake if Haney stayed @ 135 for the whole year! If he beats Loma, he should immediately go to 140!

No way Haney stays at 135. I don't see how he makes it now.

I told you, Haney's father is weighing their options for after the win against Loma. Devin will be a free agent looking to make the most lucrative fight possible that will also bolster his star appeal. There's only one name that stands out amongst the others that could offer them those benefits whether they win or lose, and that's Tank.

No one at 140 would be a big PPV fight and sell out the venue against Haney, and its already been established as the same at 135. If he wants to make the weight cut worth it, he has to fight Gervontae.
Shakur is not a huge star and would only have 1 fight at the weight class, so it wouldn't do anything for Devin financially or boost his star status, but it would be a good legacy fight.

But, at 24 years old and already an undisputed champion, he's looking for more than legacy because he still has plenty of time left in his career. Bill and Devin are looking for the spoils that he's yet to receive that should come from being the undisputed champion of the division, and he can only get that through fighting Tank.

Neither would be PPV or sell out the venue, unless he fights Taylor in the UK, which he's not going to concede after winning the undisputed and defending it in Australia. Him and his father talk about taking the bad end of the deal to get to this position all of the time.

And he would have to sign back to Top Rank and possibly fight Teo in New York just to get a good crowd, basically, giving up his A-side leverage again, and that's not going to happen. Tank would guarantee that its a big PPV event and sell out the gate no matter where they fight. Its the biggest money and publicity that Haney can attain out of everyone between the two divisions.

A fight that needs to happen but will be an absolute bore when it does
