Comments Thread For: Magsayo, Promoter Explain Change In Head Trainers From Freddie Roach To Marvin Somodio

Mark Magsayo appreciates all that Freddie Roach has done to enhance his career in Magsayo's past five fights. The Filipino fighter won the WBC featherweight title with Roach as his head coach and became one of the most fan-friendly boxers in the sport. Ultimately, though, Magsayo feels more comfortable with Marvin Somodio, Roach's longtime assistant, as his head trainer.

Should had gone with Roach's successor Julian Chua, have quality training at USA and manages weight control for his fighters quite well such as Zurdo, Zepeda and Scrappy Rodriguez. But nonetheless good for him, he wants to keep improving.

It’s not that big of a deal. Marvin is at Wild Card all the time, and Magasayo and Marvin were sparring downstairs at WC. Slow news day.

Because Magsayo regardless of whether he's right or wrong believes, that changing head trainer's will change his style, and lead to win's.

hahaha no way! Chua is USELESS! Did you hear him during Bivol vs Zurdo!? Pathetic, useless, zero constructive instructions. He is an average trainer to put it kindly. To put it accurately, he is USELESS

Well yeah he even lied to him that they were ahead of the scorecards, but to be fair, Bivol is in a league of his own, if Zurdo had freaking Nacho Beristain in his corner the outcome would have been the same.

He also failed Zepeda against Prograis which although he made it competitive, Regis put a beating and a masterclass.

Just saying that he would have access to better quality training with Chua, his fighters also somehow cut weight relatively ease and somehow rehydrate way over the limit (Zurdo and Scrappy), which would come handy for the 27 year old Magsayo whose no featherweight.

Doesn't it seem late in the game? Fight is March 4th!!!

Apparently it doesn't seem late in the game for Magsayo, because that's exactly what he's doing changing trainers.
He's the one who has to live with the consequences of his actions, whatever they might be, not you or I.
You never know what kind of falling out they may have had, that has caused this abrupt late in the day, change of plans.
