Comments Thread For: Hearn On Smith Springing The Upset Over Eubank: "Liam Smith Is A Much Better Fighter"

The mere thought of Liam Smith pulling off the upset made Chris Eubank Jr. incredulous. Although he was filled with hubris, Eubank constantly claimed that his normally unmatched work ethic was unnecessary this time around.

Eubank copying RJJ's style is all wrong for him. He needs a new trainer to help tighten up the way he's throws punches. The foot movement is there but that's about it

Stating the obvious but it is only realistic to employ such a style if you have practiced it through countless sparring sessions; then you would know all the limitations with it and how to deal with them. Obviously getting caught on the ropes, and before that, his feet not keeping distance particularly well, prove that he should not use that style in competition.

Blair the Flair and Eubank JR should fight now a fight for 'Battle of the Failed RJJ impersonators.'

It's way too late for that.

I think whether the rematch happens is all down to Eubank Junior.

Smith cannot dictate terms to any other top fighter with a belt at 154 or 160 pounds.

But he does have that more negotiating power vs Eubank Junior.

For Eubank Junior taking the rematch is about principle 'He has to get some, get back'.

I know that there is a mass of boxing fans these days, that don't like rematches.

But remember? If another man, beats another man at anything 'It is instinctive for that competitor to want to avenge that loss'.

That is competition, that is competitiveness 'And that is sport'. People need to accept this nature, and let fighters fight 'Let the game to a certain extent organically evolve'.

Smith was the better fighter for me skill for skill, his composure and tactics 'But the way the fight was abruptly won, there are many unanswered questions'.

Eubank Junior for me was potentially negatively effected, by his prior training camp for Benn 'The catch weight and re-hydration clause trauma, theoretically had a carry over effect for the Smith fight'.

These fighters are in peak condition, excessively weight draining themselves 'While going through training camps, is not optimal. It is going to have a negative effect'.

Eubank can't copy Roy and look and be Roy. Nobody on earth can. Wild Bill can show you how to shoot but don't copy him in a gunfight if your name is Chris.
