  • Comments Thread For: Floyd Schofield Goes Ten Rounds For First Time, Dominates Alberto Mercado In Points Win

The bar has already been set exceedingly high for Floyd Schofield Jr. So far, so good. The unbeaten lightweight prospect remained perfect as a pro, though he went deeper than ever before to claim his latest victory. It came in the form of a ten-round, unanimous decision win over Puerto Rico's Alberto Mercado in their DAZN-aired co-feature Saturday evening at YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California.

Sorry but this dime-store version of Shawn Porter - it's not going to end well for him, he has zero defense when it comes to avoiding left hands to the point of cringe-worthy head snap backs with every one landed on him and there were many. Not even a morsel of the IT factor.

Nice fight but not impressed. Too bad he has a crazy promoter. Oscar wants Rocha to fight Bud. GTFOH. Ortiz should have a go at Bud before Rocha.

On the other hand Oscar tonight looked like he avoids alcohol as well as Shofield avoids left hands.....which means not at all whatsoever.

I was thinking the same thing. They talked both these guys up and although they’re tough there is levels to the game and they’re not up there. Rocha will get beaten badly by Bud and Schofield looks like he lacks experience makes a lot of mistakes that better fighters will capitalize on.

Schofield is extremely talented but will need seasoning and a better style. The constant bouncing around and switching from southpaw to orthodox makes him look wild and disorganized. I almost wanted to yell at the TV “plant your feet and walk the guy down!!” It’s not pleasing to watch and judges won’t like it in close rounds. At age 20, no doubt a ton of potential, and I think GBP will smarten up and bring him along appropriately.

It sort of pissed me off to hear Oscar say that. It felt like he was stabing Ortiz in the back. I hope it was not that and Oscar was just hyping Rocha up. Or it could be that maybe Bud told Oscar to feed him Rocha.

There's a lot of potential with Kid Austin but calling out Keyshawn Davis isn't the right move right now.

Agree. I would target someone like Rivera.

The Schofield Kiddid what what he was supposed to do. He went the distance, won the fight, and got some valuable experience.
