  • Comments Thread For: Sean Hemphill: I'm Just Happy To Be Here and Ready To Seize The Moment

By Thomas Gerbasi - When Sean Hemphill steps into the ring this Friday night in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, it's the biggest fight of his young pro career as he takes on fellow unbeaten David Stevens on Showtime's ShoBox series. But there may be something missing for the Louisiana native, who is used to a different kind of fighting on a Friday night.

Hemphill should seize some scissors, and cut off those feminine looking dreadlocks (they make him look like anything but a fighter).
I usually don't comment on an individual's choice of hair style, but this is just getting ridiculous.
Even the huge beard's that some of the fighter's are growing now like Anthony Young just doesn't make sense anymore.

I have seen several times thru the years guys having to have there hair cut by the cut man when they could not see clearly. yea it is ****** it was not that long ago that you could not have a beard before entering the ring or at least they made sure it was not more then a shade of a beard. Maybe some fighters think it not what you do it is how you look doing it ? At least the judges will be able to give credit to his opponent every time he lands a shot it will be easy to pick up on as his hair flies around his head. I am drawing a blank on the guy who had his hair cut the ex commentator for Showtime anyhow can not bring his name to mind.

Pauli Mallignagi is who you’re thinking of. The funny thing about that was it wasn’t even his real hair it was a weave.

Boxers used to be a lot more professional when it came to their career's back the day, short hair, no beards, no ridiculous out fit's.
Like you accurately said when you have long hair, and the punch lands it makes the effects look even more devastating.
Paulie Malignaggi, was one of them when he fought against Lovemore Ndou, in the United Kingdom on 5-24-2008.

Thanks for the reminder -- He musta stopped by the famous "Mr. Rays Hair Weave" they used to advertise at after 200 A.M. in the morning. Guess they figured some poor slob would see that commercial and think "the weave" would change his luck--might not have to go home alone again on Friday Night but was Mr. Malli worried about his hair for inside the ring. Maybe he was just trying to get lucky.

I hear you times sure have changed someone like R.Garcia would not make it past the front door of a gym without having to fight his way thru, nothing personal just how it was at one time. Funny on showtime fight this weekend Oberton ? said in an interview that he wanted to have a fashion show before his first title fight. Now I have heard of guys looking to the bright lights and big time in a certain way but ewwww- and you know he designs his own clothes already. Hey you just think someone would keep his thoughts of that kind to himself. I do not want to imagine what other plans he has for himself. Any how i get what you are saying about the way fighters carry themselves has changed.
