Comments Thread For: Okolie on Fallout with Hearn: I'm Not Into Making Mortal Enemies; It's Just Business

Lawrence Okolie isn't really interested in holding a grudge against his longtime--and now apparently former--promoter Eddie Hearn. The WBO cruiserweight titlist is set to make his debut with Boxxer on Sky Sports in a cruiserweight match against David Light on March 11 in London.

It’s exactly that, business. Boxxer have the best platform in Sky. It’s no different from Burns leaving Warren for Hearn or Calzaghe leaving Duff for Warren. It’s the way it’s always been in UK boxing.

It all makes sense BUT don't forget Hearn is a spoilt bastard who wants to control everything and won't be seeing it as you are!

Exactly this. Even people on here get so emotional over promoters and it blows my mind, they are salesmen, the most biased people in the world. They aren't managers, they aren't pundits, they are businessmen trying to make the most money... Fighters are their product, so when they are aligned their fighter is the best ever and when they aren't it's the opposite.

So as you say, for fighters it is as straight-forward as it can be, whoever offers the most money will inevitably scoop up the most fighters - and as you also say, nowadays that pretty much links to their platform and TV dates.

In essentially any walk of life, you go where the most opportunity is, boxing is no different. Promoters get it twisted and think fighters are their property, in reality the fighter is employing them and should always be able to explore other opportunities.
