Comments Thread For: Baumgardner on Mayer: It Was Fun to Fight This Girl; Next Time It's Not Gon' Be Pretty

Alycia Baumgardner apparently is all for giving Mikaela Mayer a rematch -- it just won't be next. The Michigan native notched the biggest win of her career last month, in London, when she defeated Los Angeles' Mayer on points in their 130-pound women's title unification bout. Baumgardner, who held the WBC belt, added Mayer's WBO and IBF versions to her collection. The fight, however, was competitive, and many observers believed Mayer had a case for winning the bout.

It wasn't that much fun for the viewer, and Baumgardner's never busting Mayer up if she fights her another 10 times. As soon as Mayer started landing her jab w/authority and employing some basic feints, Baumgardner looked clueless.

No offence to her, what with being married to her and all (please don't tell her I said any of this...)

I'm going with Choi since Baum in an insufferable loudmouth braggart B.

She was busting her up for the first 3 or 4 rounds of the fight, and the last 2 or 3. Did you see Mayer's face after compared to Baumgardner's. Mayer had bruises and knots and Alycia didn't have a mark on her. Baumgardner landed most of the power shots in the fight. Mayer had a good jab, but she's not Haney. Its going to take more than that to win the fight. Baumgardner, talk your shxt!!!

And you will be wrong again, as usual.

Oh yeah, I was meant to rewatch it because I said the exact same things in the direct aftermath.

I saw Baumgardner land with ease for the first few, and then I definitely saw her looking more tentative and guarded from round 4 till round 7, where she was trying the most ham-fisted right cross feints you'll see, and getting caught square.

Can't remember the last few, so time for a review...

Edit: just so we're clear, I am not saying Mayer won by any stretch.

It was a ose fight. Had Baum up by 2 rounds. Wouldnt mind the rematch.

Women need to have 3 min rounds imo, at least for championship fights

You are right, she seemed a bit confused in the middle rounds, but in the late rounds, she got the better of the exchanges.

Baum Gardner is some coward. Gifted the first fight and now she's afraid to give the rematch. Serrano now has competition as the biggest coward in female boxing. Mayer won the first fight and will destroy that mouthy yoke in any rematch.

..so holding 3 of 4 belts, she should rematch and not try to unify..
