Comments Thread For: Taylor-Catterall Rematch: Date In Limbo Mostly Due To Building Availability In UK

Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall still want to fight each other again. Finalizing a date and a venue for their second 140-pound title fight has become problematic, though, which has left the Scottish southpaw and his English nemesis in limbo. BoxingScene.com has learned that building availability in the United

Taylor needs this fight at #147 or a catch weight of #145 or so. He don’t need to melt down to anything less than that for a guy he already beat. Needs to start testing fringe contenders at welterweight until he gets a piece of splintered title after Crawford or Spence move up.

If Teo wants that smoke - which he doesn’t - make it happen at Taylor’s new weight of #147. Easy enough.

Teo just got to 140 and taylor is the wbo champ at 140.

Why would they fight at 147?

Because Taylor officially moved up to welterweight after the Caterall fight. He’s getting comfortable and putting on muscle and strength to go after welterweight titles. Why would he melt down to #140. He’s near top 10 P4P as it is. No need to fight Teo. Teo needs to get in line for another shot at Kambosses.

It is possible, if a suitable venue cannot be secured for a December date, probably December 17, that the Taylor-Catterall rematch might not happen until early in 2023. In that scenario, nearly a year, perhaps even more than a year, will have elapsed from the time Taylor won a controversial split decision until their second meeting.
In a years time, Teofimo Lopez will have fought 4 times and claimed multiple world-titles at 140, but Josh Taylor may lose the WBO on the scales; unable to cut weight at the Jr. Welterweight limit.

Taylor-Catterall, are probably tied in a trilogy in their second encounter and wasted their prime. As far as I'm concerned they are no-longer relevant; when the IBF-WBA-WBC went out the window so did all interest in this fight.

That's false. Taylor hasnt moved up. Taylor vs catterall rematch was gon be at 140 not 147.

Josh Taylor is going to get the rematch he has demanded with Jack Catterall. The Scottish southpaw won a debatable split decision against England’s Catterall and retained his four 140-pound championships February 26 at OVO Hydro in Glasgow. Taylor was dissatisfied with the nature of that 12-round victory and the accompanying criticism, though, and thus pushed to face Catterall again in his next fight.

More money in a teofimo fight for taylor than a catterall rematch

He has to rematch Catterall at 140, because if not, he'll never settle the controversy! The UK would never let him forget that! Hopefully Teo fights Barboza Jr. next!

The u.k. already forgot that fluke night. I don't care who taylor fights next.

My point is if the Caterall fight isn't happening. Then the teofimo fight is the biggest and most lucrative fight taylor can make. There is no money or titles at top rank at 147 for taylor.
