The RING: The only fight mentioned for Marquez right now is with Ricky Hatton.

I'd like to see JMM defend his belt against Katsidis and Hatton retire. Another good matchup for JMM would be Paulie Malignaggi. Some of you might consider it a boring fight, but I love technical boxers. It would be a good fight coming off losses for the both of them, and one that would set the winner up for better things.Comment

You don't want to see JMM fight Hatton, but you want to see JMM face the guy Hatton outboxed and won every round against?I'd like to see JMM defend his belt against Katsidis and Hatton retire. I think Marquez would win, but it would not be easy.
I doubt it happens though, Marquez should move back down to 135 and Hatton is almost in retirement.Comment

taking punches over career
I agree with the first, the Mayweather loss IMO opened it up.Hatton's chin wasn't the same after he lost to Mayweather. Previous to that, he walked through Tszyu's shots, and stood up to the power of a natural welterweight in Collazo, and a solid puncher in Urango. He has taken a lot of punishment in his career, but the weight loss is the single biggest factor in his weakened chin. Hatton looked like a dead man at the Pacquaio weigh-in.
again though, pre Mayweather Hatton went through Kostya, Collazo and Urango among others .. and more or less he does absorb a lot of punishment
if you saw Hatton's face post Collazo, it looked like he got cracked upside the head with a baseball bat
**let it be known that both Collazo and Kostya hit Hatton over 200 times in each fight
even in four one sided rounds vs Castillo, Ricky still got hit quite a bit (54 times or so)
it is believable that the weight could be a bigger factor then we think, but it's not like the punches Ricky got hit with were weak shots, by any means.
if anything I think its a combination. as yes Hatton walked through good punchers in say 2005 and previously .. but for how long can Hatton expect to do it?
as I take a different example of a fighter Antonio Margarito .. maybe he does have weight issues, maybe he doesn't .. but he like Hatton is known for his chin and taking punishment
and was knocked out for the first time this year vs Shane Mosley
so im just saying, sure the weight cutting could be a big deal
but doesn't taking punches catch up with you?Comment

It would be exciting to me, but I'm a big JMM fan and a Hatton is very winnable for him. He said he would like to fight at JWW and this would be the perfect fight. Who has something left and who needs to retire? I Dinamita would beat him with superior boxing skills, kinda like JMM-Diaz, but Marquez show more caution because Hatton hits harder than Diaz.Comment

Are you on crack? JMM is much better than Hatton. One is an ATG, and the other might not even be a first ballot HOFer. Give me abreak. JMM would weigh in at 138 and KO Hatton again. Only reason JMM looked so bad was because he fought in a weight division he was too small for.Comment
