  • Comments Thread For: Shields-Marshall, Mayer-Baumgardner Double Generates Huge Spotlight on Women's Boxing

By Thomas Gerbasi - It's typical boxing that two of the United States' biggest stars on the ladies' side must go overseas for the biggest fights of their careers, but in the most important year in the history of women's boxing, former Olympic teammates Claressa Shields and Mikaela Mayer don't care.

I believe Shields can pull off the win here but I'm not sure if Mayer can. Baumgardner is a tough out for her considering she doesn't really have alot of pop. Shields can win with constant activity but Mayer doesn't have that kind of output.

Mikaela Mayer and Alycia Baumgardner, may steal the show.

I stopped right there at the Gogarty mention as an expeienced boxer. She was a matchstick, like a couple of laths stuck together, Know only a straight lefft, nothing else. HOPELESS.

Tere is no mention of the best of the lot although mention of her opponnets.

I got shields winning an easy decision and Mayer winning as well. If you examine both fighters and their opponents, Baumgardner is sometimes too dependent on her power. Mayer is the taller fighter that loves to tie up on the inside and she has a good jab. That Harper fighter may be curse for Baumgardner because her last fight(and others previously, especially her loss) showed me that she can be outboxed and rocked. I just think this fight is gonna be like Calzhagge/Lacy and Jones/Toney in which the power puncher is expected to g in thre and dominate and then gets thoroughly outboxed and even dropped along the way. I've been wrong before, but I got Mayer winning this one.

this is the fight I want to see the most. This is a main event itself. Much respect to the ladies for putting ego aside and allowing their fight to be on the undercard.

May the two with the biggest mouths lose so we can see some humility.
