Not a surprising opinion coming from Mauricio. Canelo shouldn't be punished for taking big risks (which Bivol was), but how he lost matters. Had he gone down in a back and forth, life and death battle with Bivol, then you have some argument to keep him in his spot, but Canelo could hardly have looked worse in that fight. He's got more than what he showed than night for sure, but Bivol made him look tortoise-slow, out of shape, one-dimensional and eminently hittable. The P4P best is never any of those. Canelo should still be Top 5 based on his resume, but that loss should definitely have bumped him a few spots.
so he gets made to look like a ****ing bum in a fight that he was the favourite for but that doesnt affect his standing? not a single of the 20 or so 'experts' asked by ring magazine tipped bivol to win, not one, some even had canelo bombing him out early!yet people are acting like it was mission impossible ive seen some ******ed things in my time on this forum but this new line of thinking from canelo fans in which losses and bad performances dont seem to count and we just ignore them is probably the most ****** of all
We already know the wbc are shameless canelo nut huggers so this is no surprise coming from him. But speaking in reality, no top p4p fighter has ever lost and kept the #1 spot. Especially after getting your ass whooped convincingly by a significant underdog. I personally don’t think canelo was ever the best fighter in the world. He just had the popularity, judges support, belt organization support, proper match making and activity level to justify the spot. But that’s neither here nor there.
