  • Comments Thread For: DeGuardia: I Don't See Joe Smith As 9-1 Underdog Against Beterbiev; Put Your Money On Joe

By Keith Idec - NEW YORK - Joe DeGuardia joked that he would bet six figures on Joe Smith Jr. if he weren't co-promoting his light heavyweight champion's title unification fight against Artur Beterbiev on Saturday night.

Haha, he was a 10-1 dog going into the Bivol fight too, bruh. I watched him get the brakes beat off of him. Beterbiev can outbox anyone not named Dmitry Bivol that JSJ has faced. This isn't an average LHW fighter he's going in against. Gvosdyk was one of the best fighters in the world and Beterbiev made him give up. If JSJ pulls this off it will be a MASSIVE upset.

I sure would love to see Joe win it. He has the power and has shown improvement lately. Clearly he himself takes a good shot after fighting through a broken jaw. Joe is a big light heavy and hopefully he uses his size and strength. Got to go with beterbiev but pulling for the Everyman to win

DeGuardia is talking crap, there's no way that He would've bet 6 figures on Smith.
If he really wanted to do that all he would have to do is have a friend place the bet in their name.
Smith has won fights in the past where he was the underdog, but this isn't going to be another one.
Smith has been beaten three times already, and as far as I'm concerned that should be four times, because he lost to Vlasov.
I do think that it's going to be an entertaining war while it lasts, but I think Berterbiev knocks Smith out in the latter rounds.

Should Beterbiev be favoured ? Yes . At 9-1 ? No. This is a 2-1 favourite. Styles make fights. And I believe Smith is the best he's faced. Smith has crushing power in both fists. Beterbiev has been dropped a few times to lesser puncher's. Do I think Smith can pull off the upset ? Yes. Do I love the 9-1 odds if I pick Smith ? Yes. I laid 300 on Smith. The odds were too tempting. Beterbiev is no Bivol. He's way easier to hit. If I lose 300 , who cares. I don't.

Fun fact: Odds were better for Kalajdzic than they are for Nice-Guy-Joe....
