OK so to understand this you have to understand the HISTORY of DAZN and why DAZN/Canelo Alvarez has gone down as the greatest financial failure in modern sports history.
In 2018 just after Canelo GGG DAZN was founded but in need of a global superstar. So they offered Canelo Alvarez $360 million to fight on their streaming app. Oscar and Golden Boy helped with this deal and made Canelo the world's richest athlete. But here's the thing. For that much money, YOU HAVE TO FIGHT THE BEST OPPONENT AVAILABLE EVERY FIGHT AND CAN NOT CHERRY PICK. Its one thing if you make $20 million dollars to pick and choose your opponents but when you are making $50 mil a fight YOU HAVE TO FIGHT THE BEST.
This was all part of the contract, but Oscar never told the terms to Canelo. Two big terms mattered, and we learned all of this from the lawsuit. One, they promised DAZN the GGG fight. Two, DAZN got to approve all of Canelo's opponents. This meant no more cherry picking like Khan, Kirkland, Smith, Chavez.
Now, Canelo Alvarez was furious because he wanted to fight Rocky Fielding even though DAZN told him he couldn't. But they let him take this fight because they thought the third GGG fight would make up for it. After they wanted him to fight Demetrius Andrade, but in another massive cherry pick he goes with Kovalev. Fans saw right through this and it was a financial failure.
Finally DAZN says enough is enough and tells him you have to fight a name. But it was 2020, DAZN went bankrupt, because they couldn't afford canelo's contract, and Canelo sued both DAZN and golden boy. Eventually he re-signed with DAZN, and Eddie Hearn didn't mind the Callum Smith fight because he was trying to build a name for Smith. But they quickly realized that Canelo would soon go back to his old cherry picking ways and fight yildirim and quickly go for undisputed at the easiest division in boxing while fooling fans into thinking this was a big deal. But why would he do this you may ask? He proved he fought allegedly the biggest killer at 175 and smashed him through the ropes, so why is canelo ow at an easier division? Well, the fans were smart and saw through the cherry picking ways.
Now it is 2022 and this is when the walls are closing in on Canelo Alvarez. He is considered by most the p4p king and world's richest athlete. Now EVERYONE wants to get a piece. He has David Benavidez, a young killer at 168 calling him out, Charlo and Andrade, killers at 160 calling him out, and guys like Gilberto Ramirez, Beterbiev, Bivol at 175. Canelo is trapped from all directions north and south. Or so we think.
In spectacular epic duck fashion, canelo tunnels his way out of the walls and says "I am going to crusierweight to fight Makabu because I want the biggest challenge." But here's the thing. The fans didnt buy it, they knew it was a lie, but more importantly ALL THE NETWORKS, ESPN, DAZN, PBC CALLED CANELO OUT ON HIS BULL****. They all refused to pay for this cherry pick of a fight and said you had to do better. In the end of the day at came down to DAZN's deal of Bivol and GGG, or PBC deal with Charlo and Benavidez.
Canelo took the deal that he thought was the easiest. And the fans thought was the easiest. And the rest was history. Canelo exposed and DAZN flopped.Last edited by TernceBudCharlo; 05-13-2022, 09:51 PM.

I don't get why you're praying for DAZN's disappearance from the scene. Which boxing outfit would fill the void when DAZN closes shop? We're left with PBC that can only provide one fight event per two months. It's horrible if you're a subscriber. That's the reason why I cancelled my subscription years ago. You should be praying for PBC to disappear instead, so we can see their fighters get freed and hope they become active and the "wrong side of the street" excuse might one day become a myth. What a horrible fan.BustedKnuckles likes this.

But only the posters that don’t like dazn are bad for wanting it to “disappear “.

I don't want DAZN to fail but a lot needs to change. If they refuse to change I'd rather just watch all fights on showtime or espn. Announcing is terrible, promotion, everything.

I really don't care if DAZN disappears. PBC is not a network.
I don't really care for PBC either. It has inept management.Last edited by BoxingIsGreat; 05-13-2022, 10:45 PM.
