Comments Thread For: Goossen: Ryan Garcia Is A Beast In The Gym, In Top Five Of All-Time Fighters I've Ever Trained

Ryan Garcia may never receive higher praise than what has come from his new head trainer. The past six-plus weeks spent preparing the unbeaten lightweight contender for his next fight has left Joe Goossen in awe. The renowned cornerman took over training duties for Garcia in mid-February at the start of camp for his upcoming clash with Ghana's Emmanuel Tagoe (32-1, 15KOs), which takes place April 9 on DAZN from Alamodome in San Antonio.

Goosens had a lot to say since taking over babysitting duties. That's fine. But his boy better produce, or he's gonna look mighty foolish.

“Goossen has molded numerous champions including one-time pound-for-pound king Michael Nunn, Gabriel and Rafael Ruelas, Joel Casamayor, Hall of Fame former three-division champ Shane Mosley and the late Diego ‘Chico’ Corrales, along with serving as a co-trainer for Hall of Fame former junior middleweight king Terry Norris”
So which 3 of these 7 guys is Goosen disrespecting with this nonsense? No way Garcia could be considered better than any of these guys at this stage if his career with his weak competition and consistent tendency to bail on real fights.

seriously, Corrales, Casamayor, and Mosely were all lightweights at one time. All three of them would beat Garcia like a rag doll.

Goosen didn’t mold shyte. Only the Ruelas brothers. The rest were established fighters (most already champions) already.

Goosen is the king of exaggeration. He once said that Gabe was Duran and Rafael was Arguello.

It’s been a long time since Goosen trained a quality fighter. There’s a reason for that.

The man believes in his fighter, he’s just pointing out the reasons why. Ryan would be wise to change to another trainer if this weren’t the case. Garcia is a boxer and a fighter and that’s what makes boxing great.
