Comments Thread For: Did The 'Chosen One' Show Championship Stuff? No, Not Yet

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - Here's an advantage of being old. When you see something that's topical these days, you have enough memories stored away in between your wrinkles that you can adeptly connect it to something you saw a generation ago. A new TV show reminds you of an old TV show. A new musical act reminds you of an old musical act.

Even when he had all those KO, I knew he wasn't the One. The Hyped One, more like it.

The answer is emphatically no, and if he doesn't get off that knock them out mentality he's going to get knocked out himself.
His trainer'(s) need to concentrate on perfecting his jab, double, and tripling it up, combination punching, head movement, blocking, bobbing, and weaving, quick in, and out movement, cutting off the ring, basically boxing 101, 102, and 103.
He looked lost in his last fight, they should pay Steven Rolls to become Berlanga's sparring partner, maybe he can learn that how to overcome the boxing techniques that gave him fits.

That's what happens when the hype train leaves you at the station .

It is prize fighting, so sometimes the prize is the check the fighter picks up other times its the money the Promoters make off of a fighter. There is nothing special about this guy, good he made a buck and will make a few more but no one is going to be talking about him for a long time, he reached his limit but fought off the hype.

Not only is he not the chosen one, he has zero of the "IT" factor, let alone some legend in the making.

Wow Jose Perez brings back memories. They had to be out of their mind to have his first real test time against Marlon Starling. Marlon was such an awkward extremely skilled fighter. He should actually be in the Hall of Fame. Another fighter I thought you were going to mention who comes to mind is Earl Hargrove.
He was also a feared Knockout sensation until losing to Mark Medal in classic IBF title fight. Hargrove definitely was more talented than Berlanga and a lot faster but also had a pretty swift downfall after his loss

I want to see him fight Ali Akhmedov. An entertaining slug out. He needs other sluggers. Anyone with boxing skill would just pick Berlanga apart. That's what he should become, an entertaining brawler that only fights other brawlers.

From San Juan, Puerto Rico (but born and raised in Bkln)? Im still wondering how that is possible. ESPN places PR flags obviously in every angle and frame for his piece before his fight… Just get to the fight snd leave the made up narratives out next time

Boxing is mostly bull sh it. Most fights are lopsided match ups or rigged, most hype is con job lies to scam you out of your money.
