  • Comments Thread For: Michael Conlan: I Believe I'll Win Comfortably Against Leigh Wood

Usually, it's Michael Conlan's opponent who is stepping in to enemy territory. Often, the popular Irishman, a decorated amateur and an unbeaten professional, is the one pulling in the crowds. He's a sure-fire ticket-selling success in Belfast or New York but on Saturday next week, he goes to the hometown of Leigh Wood, WBA featherweight champion, to box for his first world title as a pro.

That’s crazy I was just about to make a thread on Conlan. I was wondering what happened to him. Him and Shakur were supposed to fight at some point

I think Conlan has been protected because he's a potential money machine - he's 30 years old now - it's now or never. Need to look at some vids of Conlan to confirm my views but if Wood fights like he did against Xan Cu and he can catch up with Conlan then he should get the job done.

I'm struggling to pick a winner in this one .

On one hand I think conlan hasn't looked good in the pro ranks and possibly turned over too late but also think woods may be slightly overrated after his win over xu can. Who was coming off a lay off and looked limited. Woods did look real good tho .

Edging towards conlan on points but not too sure to be fair

I see Mick and I see one of those extremely gifted athletes that just never really go far..he's 30..Like a way better version of Paul Spadafora.

I agree. I don't think his amateur pedigree has translated to the pros, and Too Rank obviously think so too or they would have let him off the leash earlier. I fancy wood but after a fighters career best win performance, there's a bit of a slump in their next fight. I'll still pick wood to catch him

Never heard that view before - VERY interesting and now I come to think of it - it is often true! Look at Taylor>Ramirez>Caterall. Lopez>Loma>Kombosos. What do you put it down to? Complacency? natural inclination to take foot of pedal? Putting themselves on a (false) pedestal?
