  • Comments Thread For: Arum: Whyte Won't Attend Press Conference With Fury Because We Wouldn't Give Upside

Tyson Fury will have the biggest boxing stage in England to himself Tuesday afternoon. Bob Arum, Fury's co-promoter, informed BoxingScene.com on Monday that Dillian Whyte won't attend a press conference at Wembley Stadium in London, which will officially launch the promotion of their WBC heavyweight title fight April 23 at that same venue. Arum said Whyte, the mandatory challenger for Fury's WBC belt, told Fury's team in advance that he only plans to attend the final press conference the week of their fight.

Honestly who cares? Fury is the main attraction and is more than a payoff promoting this on his own. He’ll be the on singing in Wembley after he KO’s Whyte so it doesn’t matter what he would say anyway.

Whyte would have helped with the ppv sales as they are both good trash talkers, but with whyte not getting a kickback from the ppv why should he bother entertaining everyone for no reason. Waste of mental energy engagin with fury, would just be putting money into Furys pocket

Not smart. Could use this platform to get exposure in US, where absolutely zero % of sports fans know who he is. And if he performs well in fight, could cultivate a larger fan base.

Well…. The contract structure gives him no incentive whatsoever to show up to the press conference. I don’t expect him to do it out of the goodness of his heart.

This is very bad from Dillian Whyte.

Also short sighted, as other posters have said? Fighters can use press conferences, as exposure to help their marketability.

Unfortunately Whyte is too sure of himself, and this is down to working with MatchRoom.

There are boxing fans out there, who also want to see fighters engage during build ups 'And these are the fans that are buying the fight'.

By not turning up to the press conferences, Whyte is achieving nothing.

I am not really in anyone's corner for this fight, and I do think Whyte will do well. But all of this I honestly think, could back fire on Whyte.

Tyson Fury will slate him, it looks like Whyte is afraid of coming face to face with Fury. I personally don't think this is true, but for most viewers 'That is how they will perceive this behavior'.

This kind of move is making me want to back Tyson Fury 1000% percent.

purse bids do not take "promotion" into account, and Whyte technically is not required to participate

but theres a flip side to that coin. In a purse bid situation, Bob is not required to comp any tickets to Whyte, so he should expect to pay full price for whatever tickets he needs, and likely wont have access to any tickets within the first 30 rows. He also will likely be denied the usual accommodations (several suites) at the host hotel, which is arranged by the promoter. He will likely be given standard rooms at a different property, and will have to upgrade on his own dime.

Whyte is being very petty and short sighted here.
