Vergil Ortiz Jr. is not at all concerned with landing a welterweight title shot, at least as it relates to sticking around in the talent-laden division,

Win the fight, and go after Crawford! Seems to make the most sense, since Ortiz Jr. did not fight Avanesyan in the WBC eliminator! You never know when it comes to GBP:

De La Hoya Wants To “Force” Keith Thurman Vs. Vergil Ortiz Jr Fight
    February 23, 2022

Oscar De La Hoya says he wants to have the WBC force #4 Keith ‘One Time’ Thurman to face #1 Vergil Ortiz Jr. to get in a position to challenge for the welterweight title.

Ortiz (18-0, 18 KOs) is fighting next month against Michael McKinson (21-0, 2 KOs) in the headliner on DAZN at the University of Southern California’s Galen Center in Los Angeles.

If the 23-year-old Ortiz wins that fight, De La Hoya says he hopes to make a fight between him and former WBA/WBC welterweight champion ‘One Time’ Thurman (30-1, 22 KOs)...

“Yeah, we’ll see on March 19th, depending on the outcome, depending on how he looks, we’ll be knocking on everybody’s door, including Crawford and Spence,” said Oscar De La Hoya to Fight Hub TV when asked about the timeline for Vergil Ortiz Jr. to challenge for a world title. The one thing we have to do with Vergil Ortiz is we have to force him down everybody’s throat because I know a lot of fighters are not going to want to fight him,” said De La Hoya.

“He’s a very tough undefeated fighter, knockout puncher, but we’ll find a way to make those big fights happen. We want them, we’re in a position now to make those big fights happen.

“The WBC is a little complicated sometimes, to say the least,” said Oscar. “You have to fight an eliminator after eliminator, this and that. I don’t mind fighting Keith Thurman and forcing that fight to happen.

“I know Keith Thurman is a fighter, he’s a warrior. He’ll do the fight, but will his handlers allow him to do the fight? That’s the question. If the WBC can order the fight, we’ll obviously take it in a heartbeat,” said De La Hoya.

“I think that’s a very strong possibility. This fight [Michael McKinson] is for the WBO eliminator, so it’s a very strong possibility,” said Vergil Ortiz Jr. when asked if he could challenge Terence Crawford soon for his title.

“I think it would be a good fight. Kell Brook is an entertaining fighter, he’s an explosive fighter. I like watching him fight, so why not?” said Ortiz when asked about the possibility of facing Kell Brook next.

I don't know how you go from Spence, Crawford, and Thurman, to Kell Brook?

However, it's unnecessary! He can have a shot at Crawford this summer!

He has no shot of beating Crawford and if Spence is still who he was pre surgery, he isn’t winning that fight either. He better hope a belt becomes vacant or these guys move up in weight soon.

If he becomes the WBO mandatory, Crawford will Vacate and avoid Ortiz, I mean, Ortiz already called him out and Crawford pretended like he didn't even know Ortiz, but we all know he knows him, just wants nothing to do with him, same goes for boots, all the top guys with the exception of Ugas are avoiding boots and Ortiz like the plague.....

u wanna bet money on those statements? Ortiz is a problem for anyone in the division. Especially crawford cause crawford is hittable and ortiz can crack. Would be a barn burner

That’s what we like to hear. No disappearing up north without so much as a shot at a belt or meaningful fight, like Garcia down at Lw
