The same. I was watching HBO, I had always followed Gatti because of his connection with Atlantic City. I think this was early in Gatti's career resurgence. He looked massive compared to Gamache. You could just sense it was going to be a slaughter.

After reading your post, I went back and watched the fight. I didn't remember that Gamache made it past the first, only that he took a savage beating and hit with a multi punch combo as he went down. Forgot that he was dropped and buckled several times in first but survived for the second round. I also didn't remember that Gamache landed his share of leather when firefights broke out, he just didn't have the firepower.

Cheers, and thanks for spurring me to rewatch that one. I ended up watching Gatti's fight with Reyes Munoz after that. Another brutal beatdown.

Povetkin should at least be in the running. Whyte, Price, Takam and Perez come to mind immediately.

In fact, Gamache sued the NYSAC for the disparity in weight on fight night.

I loved Gatti, one of my favorite fighters of all time. Writing this is bringing back many memories of him. He always had me on the edge of my seat, seemingly 1-2 punches away from being KO'd, but somehow pulling off what seemed to be impossible and landing a fight turning punch. I have a lot of Gatti Roots of Fight gear and wear it proudly. Such a tragedy what happened to him. Was a very sad day for me.
