Comments Thread For: Can Luis Ortiz Still Be A Factor At Heavyweight After Stopping Charles Martin?

By Corey Erdman - Every generation of heavyweight boxing has its big men whose ultimate career achievements are simply winding up on a list of best fighters to not win a heavyweight title. The 60s and 70s had a litany of them, stuck behind a handful of all-time greats who ensured the likes of Jerry Quarry, Earnie Shavers, Jimmy Young and more never held the gold. The 90s had David Tua and Ike Ibeabuchi, memorable and thrilling fighters who for very different reasons never made it to the top.

Only way he becomes a champ is if Martin becomes a vacant champ again and he gets to fight another Martin level opponent.

Depends on how you define a “factor”. I don’t think he will win a belt but he’s absolutely no push over for anyone, even at his age.

In the 60's-70's it was Teofilo Stevenson who many believe would have defeated Ali. Including me. Felix Savon was no joke either, but not quite as good as Stevenson. Watch out for the Cuban HW's Lenier Pero and maybe even Bruzon. And maybe Sanchez but probably not. Nobodys ever wanted to fight the Cubans.

Most fighters get cold feet when mentioning his name.

That'd be an entertaining scrap and I'd give Babic a good shot in the 1st 3 rounds before accumulative damage slows him down.
