Comments Thread For: Nelson: Savannah Marshall Could Become No. 1 Female Fighter

Former cruiserweight champion Johnny Nelson could see Savannah Marshall taking over as the top female fighter in the world - if she beats Claressa Shields in their grudge match that is being put together for later this year.

If Amanda Serrano beats Katie Taylor she becomes a candidate for #1 female fighter in the sport.

I believe Marshall is the best. After that there is Estrada, Shields, Serrano, and Persoon all ahead of Taylor. Persoon beat Taylor twice in reality, we all know this. Shields made a fool of herself with her MMA switch. She can't wrestle, and she is not a power puncher, which you have to be in MMA if you have no other skills. She's a good combination puncher with technique and speed, and they were both willing too take one shot then hold her as she lunges in. If it was a Wilder, or someone like that, nobody is risking taking one shot, as it would be the only shot. Nash out.

Agreed, Persoon not only won against Taylor, she beat the **** out of her. Anyone that has watched those fights and actually knows boxing will know Taylor is not even half as good as what Matchroom make her out to be. She will get brutally knocked out when she takes on Serrano.

Persoon ragdolled her in that first fight, but KT outboxed her clean in the rematch. Still, KT has serious flaws and absolutely cannot crack an egg, so she’s vulnerable every time out.

I agree with the assessment, and if Clarissa don't develope a bit more as a professional and stop wasting shots and learn to settle down and I'm a Michigan native and a Shields supporter but Marshall is sharpe and smooth plus a better puncher than Shields and is tall and lean with sharp shooting punches, however although their records are very similar amateur & professionally and Shields has beaten the better fighters professionally, I'm simply going off developement and progression which I see with the naked eye not a fact! As a fan I look forward to this and hope my girl Claressa can notch another historical win; but put that UFC crap on hold dam the money this is who you are.
