If ggg was an American, the guys that support him wouldn’t. They’d be critical of him for koing bums and has beens.

I think they both had equal careers. Both will be in the hof. I think Ward has the better resume but GGG has the Draw with canelo that many people feel he won and got robbed. That would be the best win between them.

I think if they fought Ward would win.

Yes, if you fight all your fights as the home fighter, and win a lot of ugly decisions, I think it's fair for people to judge your ability as a fighter. No one is picking on Andre Ward. It's just facts man. I don't know what else you want me to say. I'm treating him like I would anyone else who did the things he did.

He was a smart tough fighter, but he was very protected, and should definitely have some blemishes on his resume. The only big fight I saw him win clean with my eyes and no controversy was Froch, which I had 7-5. And again that was at home.

        Kov 1 - loss
        Kov 2 - controversial ending/fight
        Kessler - controversial ending/fight
Dawson - controversy with the weight

Even his fights with Barrera and Bika (yes I watched and scored both), I mean I saw a guy who fought two tough even fights, and got 11-1 cards because he was at home. If you watched them, I don't think you'd disagree with me.

What can I say? I give my opinion on how I saw his fights. I can't see things I didn't see. I think he was a tough smart fighter, who greatly benefitted from fighting at home. If he didn't I think his resume would look a lot different.

        ---------

GGG did have a very close fight with Sergei. He didn't rematch him. There is certainly something to critique there. At the same time, he was late 30s in that fight, and still had a claim to winning it (I scored it 6-6 to GGG live). And to me that was the only fight of his I saw that the other guy has a claim of winning. The Canelo fights and Jacobs fights were all clear wins for him. I don't see how anyone could say otherwise. He just piles up points and rounds with his jab.

Sergei was the only guy to match his workrate, and that's why he made that a great close tough fight.
how come you only find controversy in his big wins and not his green wins early on?

That being said, I scored the fight 114-113 for Ward almost every time I watched it. And Kov 2 was fair, it was right on the belt, and Kovalev was clearly giving up at the end. It was over.

Ward schooled Kessler for 9 rounds straight. The headbutt didn't happen until round 10.

Dawson...he was the one that called him out and said that 168 was easy.
I disagree on a lot of that, but who cares really. You have your opinion, I have mine.

He only has 2 other good names on his resume besides the guys I mentioned - Abraham, and Miranda. Not sure what you're referring to really.

Also, the biggest fights are what a guy is judged on mainly, no? That seems to be all you talk about with GGG, for example.

I think the tournament organizers wanted a Ward win and wanted to make him into a star. That's the only thing I can think of. I actually found Ward more polarizing than Floyd, and I am surprised he never achieved close to the star power that Mayweather had. To me it seems they shared many things in common as far as marketing a fighter in today's society. But it's not an exact science I suppose.

I think that Ward is for the most part accepted as the better fighter and certainly has the better resume while ggg made a ton more money. Depends on one’s definition of better.

the Kessler fight was not close, most people on press row had Ward winning basically every round, and anyone watching that fight claiming that was a close fight is flat out lying to themself or they haven’t watched the fight.

Dawson decided to come down in weight…he originally claimed it wasn’t hard for him, if it was that hard to drop down that’s on him not on Ward, Ward dominated stopped Dawson

the Barrera fight was even??? Come on dude that’s just nonsense, I mean Ward was landing more jabs and pot shots and Ward was landing the bigger punches as well, Barrera wasn’t throwing punches towards the latter of the fight because he was having trouble hitting Ward regularly like dude that was not a close fight even if you gave Barrera a few rounds what 9-3?

This argument that he made fights ugly but he was able to land clean punches on the inside and other guys struggled to land those same solid shots…Ward was a great fighter, and fought much better fighters then GGG has period, it’s not close Ward is the greater fighter.
On the Bika and Barrera fights, my only comments would be to watch them again. And just score the action without regard for who either guy is.

I share the sentiments of the announcer in the Barrera fight, who after the first few rounds said, 'it takes a better man than me to score these rounds' - the rounds were all virtually the same - mucked up, physical, with each guy landing about the same number of shots. I gave each guy a couple 'clear' rounds, and then the rest were 'shoulder shrug' after the end of each round.

Ward isn't that hard to hit man. That fight actually really showed me that. In the Bika fight, it was the same thing. A lot of tight physical rounds, where a lot of people who watched had it very close. Ward is tough and smart, no doubt about it. But he wasn't a super slick fighter as far as being hard to hit. He stayed in range too much because he liked to wrestle around on the inside.

On Kov 2, I saw Ward start better than he did in fight 1, but I still had Kovalev outboxing him 5-2. But Ward was definitely more in the fight. If the fight didn't end on actual low shots, I don't think there would be as much controversy. Ward definitely landed low before that last round as well. He was even warned for it. I don't really care to watch every second of it and slow it down to see how many shots were low. But he definitely landed quite a few low. In another venue, another ref, who knows how that would have played out.

Kessler, the controversy was the rough tactics employed throughout the fight - right or wrong, do you think he would have gotten away with that in Denmark?

Dawson, the controversy is because Dawson was drained and admitted as much, reportedly got KOed cold in sparring, and was reportedly begging to do a catchweight after he realized 168 was way too much.

He was a tough smart fighter but again I can't ignore or explain away all of those controversies in his fights. If you saw it differently I'm not going to be changing your opinion I'm sure. But I don't know how someone can just try and explain away all of that to be honest. But to each his own.

Like I said, it's just hard for me to rate Ward that highly because he never traveled, and seemed to get quite a few helping hands in many of his fights since they were at home.

                    - -GGG infinitely more title fights.

Wart wouldn't go down to 164 that Golovkin was willing to move up to.

No. Americans don’t gravitate to overtly religious sports stars.

Americans like Babe Ruth, Jordan, Tyson, Floyd, Iverson, Lawrence Taylor Conor, etc. guys with an edge .
