Ward. GGG hasn't taken a single risk in his entire career.

Ward benefited from the super six tourney as GGG pointed out before, and GGG was unlucky in not getting the decision in the first Canelo fight. But everyone wanted GGG after the Canelo fights and he’s decided not to fight the top guys. That’s on him. So id say Ward

Ward had the better career and resume. ggg's resume is full of no-names, and his so-called wins against guys like jacobs and derevyanchenko are controversial where many thought he lost, and he never beat canelo, who is the only elite guy he ever fought. Ward on the other hand has beaten top guys during his time very convincingly, and has moved up in weight to be successful, something ggg has never accomplished.

Ward. And by a decent margin.

GGG is one of the best this era, he missed out on facing Pavlik, Sergio, Cotto, Sturm, and Abraham, but I won’t fault him for those because they avoided him. Defeating 3 out of 5 of those names would’ve been great for these discussions (and if we’re being honest, he’s the favorite over all 5, but there’s little reward in hypotheticals).

Ward actually faced the top fighters in his division, Chad Dawson, and Kovalev; Froch, Dawson, and Kovalev were top 10-20 P4P fighters around the time he fought them too. I believe he was ready and willing to make the GGG fight and moved up to fight Kovalev when the writing was on the wall.

Golovkin not facing Ward and taking a leave of absence late in his prime are going to hurt him in these discussions.

Ward would have decimated GGG and everyone he fought.

That said, the record books would favor GGG's career due to the string of no hopers he beat.
GGG could not survive Wards resume.

Depends. Ward fought better opposition. GGG made more money.

Honestly the whole Ward-GGG fight thing is tired to me. Initially it seems like HBO wanted them to fight, and I think Ward wasn't really active or healthy enough and declined.

Then, when GGG became a bigger name, I think Ward knew the fight had passed at that time, but he wanted to get a little buzz from sending in an offer around the Lemieux fight (when GGG was due to face Cotto/Canelo winner next).

If Ward was traveling around all the time and fighting guys in neutral sites or away, I would take any offer or talk from him more seriously.

He seems like a decent guy, and was a tough smart fighter. I will always say that about him. But yeah I think he was a bit full of sh.it with a lot of what he said, and I just never really saw a lot of high level skills from him. I think always fighting at home really benefitted his career/record.
We obviously saw different things in ward! I thought he was highly skilled, very tactically aware, and well conditioned.

I do however completely agree with your thoughts on all the home advantage fights but that's down to good management, and it's hard to criticise someone trying to always maximise their advantages.

Thanks for the exchange of thoughts.
