After watching countless film and fights, I have concluded that Jaron Ennis is the most skilled out of everyone at 147. Let's breakdown exactly how great this kid is.
Jaron Ennis:
The only weaknesses or questions marks I see is the fact that sometimes he drops his guard (this can be very dangerous against a puncher). Also, his chin has yet to be tested (How will he respond when he gets hit by a big puncher).
The advantages clearly outweigh the weaknesses. If I could do a comparisons he is a mix of Roy Jones and Pernell Whitaker. The kid hasn't even scratched the floor with his potential and I do see him becoming an elite defender and growing as an offensive fighter (which is pretty scary). As of right now, I think he is the most skilled Welter weight in the division and it is 50/50 against Spence and I would favor him against Crawford due to superior defense, power, size, athleticism and strength. Thoughts?
Jaron Ennis:
- Power In Both Hands - (Sugar Ray Leonard Level) Argubally the hardest puncher at 147.
- Really good defense - (potential to be on the level of Floyd, Looche, Pernell, Benevitez, and Toney). Head movement is superb and is exceptional at judging distance.
- Counter Punching and Timing - Crawford and Thurman have an argument here. But it seems to me that Boots's timing is Roy Jones and Floyd Level. The way he is able to counter, create angles, and even punch through the tightest gaps gives him the edge.
- Ability to switch stances/Switch hit - Argubally the greatest switch hitter I've seen since Hagler. Although Crawford is good at fighting in both stances, he sometimes seems out of sync when he's orthodox. He also has a tendency of getting countered when he switches southpaw. Unlike Crawford, Ennis has power in both hands when he switches, his defense is really good while in both stances, and he switches much smoother compared to Crawford (Crawford often times seems unbalanced)
- .Footwork - Outside of Loma, Usyk, and GGG I would say Ennis has the best footwork. He is never off balanced and he does a tremendous job dashing in out of range to avoid jabs, straight rights, and hooks.
- Athleticism - His athleticism is almost Roy Jones like. His feet are fast and he knows how to box off the back foot (which is extremely difficult to do).
- Jab - Beautiful jab
