Comments Thread For: Canelo Carries Mean Streak Into Latest Bout With Caleb Plant

By Corey Erdman - The late Marvelous Marvin Hagler once said "it's tough to get out of bed to do roadwork at 5 am when you've been sleeping in silk pajamas." For most human beings, the rigors associated with boxing are only fathomable as a desperate escape from circumstances. If you're already rich, why would you go through this day after day?

"Canelo no longer has to reach for any crown, though adding Plant’s IBF super middleweight title to his stash would be nice. The question is no longer whether Canelo can beat a certain fighter, it’s whether anyone can beat him. And since the answer to that, at least in the short term, appears to “probably not” in the eyes of oddsmakers and fans, he now had to find meaning in the annoyance that someone would dare try."
"Make them miss, and make them pay. "

Ik so looking forward to seeing this fight.
I'll love to see how Plant evade those power punches from Canelo.
And how Canelo keep up with Plant's paces

Canelo is one of the best today, and I especially applaud the way he fought Golovkin in the rematch.

But he's no Hagler. Do you think he could beat Hagler, Leonard, Hearns, Roy Jones, Hopkins, Nunn and Toney? I think not.

Looking forward to the Plant fight. We'll find out how slick Caleb is. Can he do something similar to what Mayweather did to Canelo, that's the question.

Most of the great rivalries of the past at the championship level that had 2 meetings which were not definitive, went on to be trilogies. Canelo fought a very questionable draw with GGG in a fight that was set up in a way that GGG by virtue of fighting in Canelo's home court with Canelo's judges, had to score a KO to get the win. In the second fight, which Canelo also insisted be held in his home, the result was also very debatable. Then after wresting the title from GGG with the help of home court advantage again, he refuses to fight a 3rd time??? And now the talking heads elevate him to supposedly be head and shoulders above GGG. I'm sorry, but I don't see the justification for this.

Plant seems to have a real belief that he can beat Canelo and that makes for an exciting fight. I'm rooting for him but as a true boxing fan I commend Canelo for truly being on top of the sport right now and being THE MAN TO BEAT. Plant has a tough task in front of him and hopefully so does Canelo.

Some wonder if Canelo could beat greats from the past like Hopkins Toney Jones Hagler Robinson etc. Yes I think he's up there with the best of them. He can box, has great defense & can punch. Too bad we won't see those fights.
