Nah he would get the same treatment as Callum Smith and BJS. What’s he going to do? Stand his ground and fought in the pocket and make it easier for Canelo? Or box/move back peddle 80% of the time? Either way he isn’t getting his hands raised.
The more I see Plant the more I think he probably outboxes Canelo

No, probably not. Canelo is on different level. Plant is less skilled than Saunders.
You must be a big puncher ( GGG) or elite skilled fighter to give Canelo a trouble.Comment

Quite frankly BJS has looked like crap in virtually every single fight he has ever had outside of Lemieux who is as limited as it gets.
Yeah he might look good for 4 rounds that is about it then he's holding on for dear life and barely clinging on.
You won't find Plant or a fighter of his quality in their prime forever getting outboxed and beaten up by domestic Argentine fighters like Cocares or struggling with the likes of Akavov, Isufi etc etc
He barely got over the finish line vs a novice Eubank Jr, Lee, Monroe Jr etc etc
Plant lacks power and isn't as skilled yet he's holding off guys twice as good and as big who are pressure fighters.
BJS he hasn't the pop or fundamentals to keep anybody off him.
If he was so good, so talented so skilled, had such great reflexes and a high ring I.Q and so on he'd not be taking a pasting every single fight against some frankly awful opponents regardless of his lack of power.
He is undisciplined for sure but how many rubbish performances can one guy put in before people just say you know what maybe he just isn't what we hoped?Last edited by dan_cov; 09-06-2021, 05:36 AM.Comment

Plant ran out of gas against that Uzcategui and he was not getting his body battered. Plant about to step into the major league and will get brokenComment

Plant brings nothing that Alvarez hasn’t already dealt with and conversely, Alvarez is levels above Plant’s best opponent. I watched Plant on the come up with anticipation, but his career hasn’t been managed to prepare him for this moment. Easy work. They saved the softest for last.Comment

I know the type of scenario. A fighter can win and round, but still look like he is losing 'Because it is taking a incredible effort just to have some success'.
Plant will win rounds. But it will be up to Canelo. I envision Canelo playing the patient man routine, like he did vs BJS. It boosted BJS confidence, started showboating, etc. Until one single punch deflated BJS confidence and effectively ended the fight.
Canelo will allow Plant to win rounds, but it is solely strategic. Just Canelo playing mind games. Learning Plant's movements and patterns. Learning about his jab, timing, his power or lack of. Meanwhile viewers will see it as Canelo struggling. Until he decides to finally start fighting, that is when it will all go down south for Plant. Then Canelo's next opponent will see where Plant and BJS were successful and why, and implement it in training. Not knowing that their success was success because Canelo allowed them to have it. He is so ahead of everyone else, a lot of fans don't even understand his game. He looked silly vs Mayweather, but that's Mayweather. Plant will win only the rounds that Canelo allows him to win.
Alvarez will fight efficiently and just slowly go through the gears 'He has not got many gears, but he will slowly impose himself on plant'.
I don't really rate these other middle-weights, physically they seem below par. I don't understand how and why Alvarez is so strong compared to most if not all of them accept Golovkin.
I am talking physical brute strength.
The fighters from the 90's and early 2000's seemed to be stronger, I would not expect them to let a former Welter-weight move up and push them around etc
From Middle Weight to Light Heavyweight, this is a very below par era 'Alvarez is exploiting them all'.

Plant has enough pop with his jab and hybrid left hook to get Canelo’s respect. I agree with most everything you have posted here. I will put $ on Plant and post my slipPlant is a sharpshooter he is fast, accurate and while not a big puncher he is what I'd describe as a spiteful puncher. I definitely feel he has the pop to command respect from the best of them.
I get that and think Canelo has excellent head movement but the taller fighters and jabbers he has fought just haven't had a varied skillset and have been too negative. Plant is a very calm, relaxed, instinctive boxer that I don't think will overcomplicate it and that is why I think he beats him. Sticking too the basics, what he is good at. He is extremely composed in there.
His feint variety, versatility of his jab and ability too hook off it. Canelo tries slipping inside he'll be met with the right hand down the middle. I think this is first true fight where we see what he learned from that Floyd fight.
I think there is a real fear factor in most Canelo opponents, they just show too much respect and are scared stiff of getting countered.
He has a lot more tools than say Kovalev who did nothing but tentatively jab at his gloves and even then Canelo had a torrid time closing the gap just because he stayed busy.
A lot of his opponents keep it too basic they just spend the fight back peddling and just flicking the jab, they're not even varying it its just a little ''leave me alone'' type jab. Too much respect then once he slips the jab they panic, they freeze up and that is where he tends to have his moments.
Plant is a very instinctive fighter that offers a look Canelo hasn't had to deal with since FloydComment

First I'll preface this by saying Caleb Plant is both bigger and imo better than BJS. I don't get that comparison at all tbh. Now while I do think Plant is an excellent boxer and he's definitely a world class fighter, what makes this difficult for him is he just really doesn't have that experience level. Canelo is wayyyyyy more experienced than Plant. And for me that's gonna be the defining feature of this fight. Plant isn't ready for this level of fighter.Comment
