I think what it comes down to is if a fighter wants a fight he needs to a) back the other guy into a corner by beating the guys who build the fight (i.e. being able to say 'hey, I've beat everyone else') and b) push his team (promoters, managers, etc) to make it happen. Spence is better at A, but deficient at B and the opposite can be said for Crawford.

In the end it's a damn shame.

EDIT: Also, yes agree that if Crawford resigns that tells you all you need to know on that front
Just wondering who it is that you feel Crawford is avoiding? I’m not trying to butt heads with anyone, honestly curious, because my take parrots what el_Moro pointed out. All the top guys are with PBC and forbidden to speak his name. It is a shame. I hope he gets out of Top Rank and can finish his career with some big fights.

Agreed. I’m a big Spence fan but I favour Bud as well. I just see him out boxing him in enough rounds to take a decision. Crawford is so adaptable too IMO, I think he’s a potential ATG if he manages to secure the legacy fights needed to reach that status. I’ll be rooting for Spence though.

Calling fighters coward shows that you don't really get the meaning of the word coward. Being calculated is a more suitable instead imo. All of them have risked their lives each time they step in the ring to fight before live audience. Thus show some respect to these gladiators.

It's cool man, I like coming here to discuss boxing idk why people feel the need to argue. That's what we have bosses and coworkers and whatnot for...

Anyway, from my perspective I think the 'other side of the aisle' criticism should apply to both. While yes, Spence has used that excuse with Crawford, Crawford himself has been waaaay too accepting of that at least since he moved to WW 3 years ago. In those 3 years at WW he's fought Horn, Benavidez, Khan, Kavaliauskas, and Brook. He chose to sign again with Top Rank in September 2018, even before the Benavidez fight. Sure Top Rank has slim pickings at WW, but Crawford chose to sign there despite that. That, to me, is the source of his 'ducking,' if you were to apply that phrase.

            Hmm....ok.

Same Pacquiao that said Spence was "too slow".

            Ok

What's the excuse for Crawford not fighting Shawn Porter? He was ready, willing, and able, to cross the street! He couldn't fight him because his "Daddy" (Arum) said no!

Leicesterage Combat Talk Radio likes this.

Crawford has passed the "eye test" at 147, but when you factor in his level of competition, I would put him in a tie w/ Boots! In fact, since the "eye tests" are all we have, I would say Boots Ennis is the best WW @ 147! If we're going to factor in level of competition, Spence vs. Pacquiao is THE BEST FIGHTING THE BEST, and thank God we're getting this fight!

Shawn couldve activated his mando any time. He didnt and was dropped from the rankings.

Nah Crawford is far more than just the eye test. His resume is actually solid. He’s beat 7 top 10 guys, 4 top 5 guys, (source: Ring Magazine ratings) won 6 ABC titles, 2 lineal titles and 1 undisputed title.

His 147 run has been lacklustre but that takes nothing away from what he accomplished from 135-140.
