Comments Thread For: Jermell Charlo: I Feel Like I Done Faced Better Guys, Tougher Opponents Than Castano

By Keith Idec - SAN ANTONIO - Jermell Charlo respects Brian Castano and what the Argentinean champion has accomplished. The Houston native still doesn't think Castano is the toughest opponent he has agreed to fight during his 13-year professional career.

He’s right Castano is Rosado level at best.

Geez. This clown needs to pay back we taxpayers for that 12 years free education he obviously squandered.
Or did he even finish HS? Such an embarrassment to the sport. SMH

Boxers aren’t usually known for their education. It’s not exactly a sport that kids aspire to get into. It’s usually not a sport you find in high schools, not in colleges, there’s no scholarships, no real “league”, no educational support for aspiring boxers. Boxing is really a sport you are more likely to get into if you are poor, from a poor neighborhood, poor school district, poor parents or no parents. For some of the most successful boxers in history, finishing High School wasn’t even a thing.

You can list a ton of boxers who graduated HS, or went to college or got their PhD, it won’t change that boxing doesn’t usually attract scholars. I mean you have a better chance at being successful in boxing if your pre k-12th was boxing. I doubt we will see too many University of Oxford graduates go on to become successful boxers.

tl;dr: Illiterate boxers in pro boxing has literally been happening for over 100 years. It is a sport for poor people. Poor upbringing = higher chance of being uneducated.

Embarrassment for the sport? So now a sport that has two guys bashing each other’s faces requires proper grammar and etiquette when talking? We respect these guys for what they do in the ring already. You’re acting as if Charlo has said something outrageous.l or controversial.

Well done for demonstrating your intellectual superiority there.

Are you a fan of boxing or just punching down?

Castano is a pressure fighter with technic but with boxers he does he is not as active until he figures things out. I expect Charlo to win by decision.

And the hilarious thing is AAVE is a linguistically valid. Doesn't make anyone not educated or intelligent because they're comfortable speaking in a way they learned in their community.
