Comments Thread For: Manager: Deontay Wilder is Training Like He's Never Trained Before

I suspect now so is Fury. No doubt their training, and certainly diet, is concentrating on different tactics however. If following the periodisation model they strength and conditioning coaches do, I suspect wilder is doing far more routines associated with explosiveness than in the past. Like Holyfield did, training for short powerful bursts over and over rather than long distance cardioLeave a comment:

Fury will take away his big right hand, and push him backwards. Wilder isn’t just going to transform in 12 months of training.
He’s got a very real punchers chance, but outside of that he has looked a class below fury over the two fightsLeave a comment:

Wilder can train as much as he wants to, and he's always in top shape anyway.
Wilder doesn't have the skills to compete with Tyson Fury, and he never will do.Leave a comment:

I have a heart and feel for Deontay. You talk about trying too hard, well here is that guy. It can only end in tears and broken egos. A shame but he's a stubborn fella.Leave a comment:

Why didn't anyone on his team tell him he needed to put mass on those stick legs? LolLeave a comment:

I've been watching his interviews and they remind me of somebody with PTSD. I think he's lost it mentally.Leave a comment:

Wilder already comes in to his fights in great shape. What he should do is increase his leg strength.
But if I was his coach I'd look only at ways of slowing Fury down (which seems odd when we are talking about someone the size of Fury).
Slow down his movement by targeting his body.
Slow down Fury's offence by making sure Wilder's left arm is a great enough threat that Fury has to take it into account. Double jab and left hook to the body.
Not sure Wilder is humble enough or mentally flexible enough to learn that though. Old dogs, new tricks etc.

310lb. bench isn't all that impressive. The smaller guys I played football with in High School could do 10 reps of that fairly easy. And they were like 180lbs. Wilder better hope he trained those neck muscles to help his chin and strengthen those weak legs so his Wakanda outfit doesn't weigh him down.It really doesn't matter how much he trains tbh. He's TERRIFIED of Fury and no amount of training is going to change that. He shouldn't be going into the ring in this state of mind.
Bench pressing 310 lbs isn't going to make any difference to the price of chips once those punches from Fury start coming in.
