The matchup of top welterweights was first revealed by Pacquiao (62-7-2, 39KOs) and Spence (27-0, 21KOs) through their respective social media pages on May 21, at the time merely listing Las Vegas as the destination though not specifying a venue. Loose talk surfaced of the fight possibly moving to another location once plans were announced for WWE Summerslam PPV event to head to Vegas on that date, with the event taking place at Allegiant Stadium, home to the NFL's Las Vegas Raiders.
