Comments Thread For: Hearn: Wilder's Confidence Must Be Absolutely Shot To Pieces; Made 642 Excuses For Loss

LAS VEGAS - Eddie Hearn prefaced his prediction by noting that Deontay Wilder remains a pulverizing puncher who can change the course of a fight in a split second. The British promoter still doesn't give the hard-hitting former WBC heavyweight champion much of a chance to defeat Tyson Fury in their third fight next month. Hearn has entirely too many questions about Wilder's psyche to believe he can avenge his lopsided loss last year when he faces Fury on July 24 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Is a real problem with boxers who have huge egos. Once they lose - they can't accept it was because the other guy was better.

Wilder can brush off one defeat by making excuses but If he loses again - it could be a real problem for him mentally. Because that's who he is in his mind - the guy who can't be defeated who KOs everyone else.

Fight sports (and athletic endeavour in general) is synonymous with ego.

It's just part of the necessary mentality. Once you admit a guy is better than you, what's the point in fighting?!

Speak on it Eddie…..not like you have made an excuse before. And you need to talk for someone to realize AJ not dead or retired.

I knew it was only a matter of time before ahab started making comments about his beloved white whale. Still bitter because wilder wouldn’t bow at his knees and kiss his feet…not understanding what his own behaviour and methodology means and represents to a man like wilder from a rural Dixie state like Alabama. Hearn doesn’t get it, won’t ever get it, and neither with anyone else with the “empire” mentality. Young Edward, get over your desire to want to control wilder and your resentment because he didn’t want to sign with your app and make you money by increasing subscriptions in the USA. He doesn’t want to be controlled by you, no one from PBC who moves the needle did. Get over the bitterness of him winning the arbitration whixh resulted in you looking like a liar and a fool in front of boxing fans, boxing media, and the Saudis.
but no, young silver spoon Essex boy Edward will forever feel some kind of way about wilder…he better hope wilder doesn’t win….

Any significance to the number 642? Quite a number, Wilder didn't make that many excuses but he made a few big, silly ones.

It could be Wilder's last fight if he gets knocked out badly, because psychologically how would he accept another defeat, and he has enough money now.

Yeah, you would think this would be understood. Wilder is like Hopkins was, in order for him to perform at his highest level he has to feel like the outsider or the target. Hopkins was the exact same way.

By the way, fury looked even worse than he normally does. A fighter in poor condition doesn’t take a punch as well. If wilder can fight like he did on the back foot against Stiverne, all that goo he’s carrying to get up to 300lbs is going to make a difference
