You are looking into it too much. Mayweather retired 6 years ago, this was an exhibition. Mayweather beat Canelo handily, yes Canelo has improved a bit since then, but Canelo in a real licenced bout would knock Logan Paul into next week inside 1 round. Mayweather is no longer an elite professional fighter, he's just a six-year retired, 44-year-old man, out there to make some easy money. Mayweather no longer possesses the tools that made him great. His incredible timing is now just mediocre, his great speed is now just decent speed.
I think that most young guys who possess reasonable athletic talent could take up a sport, do nothing else for years, and eventually they're bound to get good at it.
I think you're putting way too much stock on the outcome of an exhibition. In the minds of the casuals you're right because they don't follow the sport or know enough about boxing to assume any athletic guy with no experience can compete with a pro boxer
Judging by Paul's showing last night and his previous fights, he would definitely get lit up by amateur boxers in and around his weight division, let alone journeyman who can take a real punch and are paid to spar top prospects and contenders
It isnt a great look. It'd be like a bunch of Youtubers and TikTok'ers deciding to make a soccer team for a laugh and then 3 years later they're competitive with Real Madrid.
