Comments Thread For: Arreola: Worked Nonstop On Defense, Don't Want Another Bermane Stiverne Situation Happening

If his pre-fight insistence pans out, Chris Arreola should enter the ring this weekend at his lightest weight in more than five years. The real goal, however, is to offer the most disciplined version of the three-time heavyweight title challenger. More so than his physical appearance, Arreola plans to be at his most aware and elusive in his all-Mexican heavyweight showdown with former unified heavyweight titlist Andy Ruiz (33-2, 22KOs).

Not PPV-worthy but it's going to be a fun fight to watch.

Bermane was lethal with that overhand right though.

Not only is Andy much faster, he's almost 30lbs heavier than Arreola. Working on defense for just one camp, it may help a little, but not much. Arreola's offense has always been his defense. He's not a defensive fighter in style or mentality, and he has to be offensive to win. Plus, Andy throws in combination. This is going to be nasty. I'd rather see Andy vs. Dillian Whyte or Deontay

Ruiz has fast hands n he's dangerous in exchanges. AJ set a blueprint how to beat him. Box him at range n avoid exchanges. Areola doesn't have the dimensions for that its gonna be a shootout as long as it lasts. I'd give him a shot if he tried to make it boring to frustrate Ruiz by tying him up constantly. I like the odds

Goossen has improved Arreola much more than any previous trainer has done with him. If he steps into the ring focused, ruiz will indeed have a nightmare to deal with. Don't forget, ruiz doesn't have a great defense. Not saying Arreola wins... it will be a tough bout for both of them... but at the very least he's going to give ruiz pure he!! to deal with for as long as the fight lasts.

What I'm hoping to get from Arreola is a post fight interview that can at least compare to the one he gave following his loss to Vitali Klitschko in September of 2009: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NCyrZoPnBc
