BT Sport is up for sale

If DAZN pick it up, coupled with their potential deal with Matchroom, they will control pretty much all UK boxing.

    Thoughts?

Doesn’t really work like that. BT has a contract with Frank Warren, not the fighters. Warren would just take his business elsewhere, The contract would probably become breakable upon sale of a business. So even if DAZN were to buy BT sport, they don’t get a load of boxers in the deal. They would probably just get rights to a video library of BT sport events and any other preexisting contracts with other sport would have to be renegotiated, depending on clauses.

If it was that simple, then DAZN should do it, not for boxing but because BT just signed a 3 year premier league extension. It doesn’t work like that though i
imagine. The Premier League wouldn’t allow the broadcasting rights to just be handed over to the highest bidder. There would always be get out clauses up on business sales.

        Doubt it

Boxing is pretty far down the list on what they invest in. They are paying billions for Premier League and Champions League rights. What they spend on boxing is a drop in the ocean compared to that

Yeah man fair enough, but just think about how cool it would be to having all UK boxing content on one platform!

Maybe Frank will hook back up with sky again...

            Yeah I’d love it

Anyway I can’t see why it couldn’t happen, DAZN in USA have more than one promoter.

You would have to imagine Eddie’s snooker and darts are eventually going to end up on DAZN too. They have a pretty good opportunity to start almost monopolising UK sport. If they could get some Premier League are Champions League rights in three years, then Sky and BT sports packages will be in trouble.

Eddie is on the board of DAZN too, he’s only ever mentioned it once. So there is no doubt the other sports on the match room are going there.

But when you look up music and film and everything, It’s only going to be a matter of time before apps start taking over sports too.

One company controlling "pretty much all of boxing" is never good in the long run.
