Gongora sounds cool as hell. I doubt he gets a Canelo fight but I'd like to see him have a good run.

Great story, brought in at 15 days notice basically to lose - and they very nearly did rob him too, if he hadn't have got the late KO the judges were gonna give it to Akhmedov if I recall right, which would have been a travesty. And it's weird about the BHop connection through Mercado cos I was thinking right through the fight how he resembled Bhops, not just his frame but also his style and footwork. Gotta wonder if he studied footage of his uncle's fights with Hopkins.

Crazy I didn't know Mercado was his uncle he beat BHop in the their first fight without a doubt should've been Ecuadors first world champion if you don't include Jack Culcay who was an interim champ. I think the fight to make is Gongora vs Benavidez that would be a great matchup at 168 and considering Benavidez is half Ecuadorian I think it would sell well.

Could be. The BHop influence is definitely there.

Now I like that idea. I was thinking this would be a make or break type for Edgar Berlanga or David Morrell. But a Benavidez fight would be great too

Gongora is a very, VERY underrated fighter. I saw him fight, and he is very composed and skilled, doesn't buckle under pressure and seems durable. I think people are overlooking him because he is an IBO champ, but I think he can be put in the mix with the top super MWs. The top super MWs should watch out for him.

Morrell is a great talent and would be a good match up for either I don't think Berlanga is ready yet I seen him get dropped hard in the amateurs and I think the same thing is going to happen eventually in the pros when he rushes forward you can't bully everyone especially at the elite level a good counter puncher will stop him he has great power though and is entertaining I still like watching him fight.
