Comments Thread For: Frank Warren Backs Povetkin To Knock Whyte Out in Rematch

Frank Warren, promoter for WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, believes Alexander Povetkin is more than capable of knocking Dillian Whyte out cold on Saturday night. Back in August of 2020, Povetkin was down twice in the fourth round - but then he came out in the fifth and landed a perfect uppercut to knock Whyte out cold.

I've seen some KO's that ended with a reversal in the rematch, usually a decision. Like Terry Norris getting flattened by Simon Brown and then winning a decision in the rematch or like fights on youtube where Michael Dokes stopped Mike Weather early and then they fought to a draw. But most of the time as we know, the winner of the first fight wins the second.

        Always nice to read
        post from
a true fan who knows the history of the sport. I remember that Norris be Brown fight, was a beating while it lasted and then Norris came back to thoroughly befuddle and outbox Brown who just had no answer for the movement and ring generalship

Whyte wasnt supposed to lose the first fight. His jaw is suspect worse than AJ. Can he get past grandpa? Will he become a sentimental favorite, loved for his losses? Whyte will have to lose to somebody better than Povetkin for that to happen, but it's a start.

I was preparing to read some salty comments from Frank, but he actually makes some good points. Any lasting Covid effects could well make the difference, and it'll be interesting to see what happens in the latter rounds if this fight goes deep.

Truth is Pov's old and faded and Whyte is a younger B- fighter , so anything can happen .

Thanks for your input, Frank. I think I hear Bob asking for some salt on his food, off you run.

Well the exact same thing can happen again. Whyte was winning, was well on top and looked in full control. Povetkin was losing that fight so his chance was to hope Whyte had a slip of concentration, drop his gaurd and leave a hole and that's something Whyte has been guilty of more than once and that's exactly what happened.

Whyte looks trim, looks like has been training hard and well but it wasn't his shape that cost him last time out. He needs to stay focused and mentally sharp or the Russian will have him again.
